Although the Lord sent prophets to the people to bring them back to him, and though they testified against them, they would not listen.

The Lord sent prophets to the people to bring them back to him. The prophets told the people what they were doing wrong. But the people wouldn’t listen.

Hearken unto me, my people; and give ear unto me, O my nation: for a law shall proceed from me, and I will make my judgment to rest for a light of the people.

Who among you will give ear to this?[ who] will hearken and hear for the time to come?

For this people’s heart is waxed gross, and[ their] ears are dull of hearing, and their eyes they have closed; lest at any time they should see with[ their] eyes, and hear with[ their] ears, and should understand with[ their] heart, and should be converted, and I should heal them.But blessed[ are] your eyes, for they see: and your ears, for they hear.

To hearken to the words of my servants the prophets, whom I sent unto you, both rising up early, and sending[ them], but ye have not hearkened;

Since the day that your fathers came forth out of the land of Egypt unto this day I have even sent unto you all my servants the prophets, daily rising up early and sending[ them]:Yet they hearkened not unto me, nor inclined their ear, but hardened their neck: they did worse than their fathers.

Yet the LORD testified against Israel, and against Judah, by all the prophets,[ and by] all the seers, saying, Turn ye from your evil ways, and keep my commandments[ and] my statutes, according to all the law which I commanded your fathers, and which I sent to you by my servants the prophets.Notwithstanding they would not hear, but hardened their necks, like to the neck of their fathers, that did not believe in the LORD their God.And they rejected his statutes, and his covenant that he made with their fathers, and his testimonies which he testified against them; and they followed vanity, and became vain, and went after the heathen that[ were] round about them,[ concerning] whom the LORD had charged them, that they should not do like them.

Nevertheless they were disobedient, and rebelled against thee, and cast thy law behind their backs, and slew thy prophets which testified against them to turn them to thee, and they wrought great provocations.

Who hath ears to hear, let him hear.

Incline your ear, and come unto me: hear, and your soul shall live; and I will make an everlasting covenant with you,[ even] the sure mercies of David.

Woe unto you! for ye build the sepulchres of the prophets, and your fathers killed them.Truly ye bear witness that ye allow the deeds of your fathers: for they indeed killed them, and ye build their sepulchres.Therefore also said the wisdom of God, I will send them prophets and apostles, and[ some] of them they shall slay and persecute:That the blood of all the prophets, which was shed from the foundation of the world, may be required of this generation;From the blood of Abel unto the blood of Zacharias, which perished between the altar and the temple: verily I say unto you, It shall be required of this generation.

Give ye ear, and hear my voice; hearken, and hear my speech.

And the LORD God of their fathers sent to them by his messengers, rising up betimes, and sending; because he had compassion on his people, and on his dwelling place:But they mocked the messengers of God, and despised his words, and misused his prophets, until the wrath of the LORD arose against his people, till[ there was] no remedy.

Then began he to speak to the people this parable; A certain man planted a vineyard, and let it forth to husbandmen, and went into a far country for a long time.And at the season he sent a servant to the husbandmen, that they should give him of the fruit of the vineyard: but the husbandmen beat him, and sent[ him] away empty.And again he sent another servant: and they beat him also, and entreated[ him] shamefully, and sent[ him] away empty.And again he sent a third: and they wounded him also, and cast[ him] out.Then said the lord of the vineyard, What shall I do? I will send my beloved son: it may be they will reverence[ him] when they see him.But when the husbandmen saw him, they reasoned among themselves, saying, This is the heir: come, let us kill him, that the inheritance may be ours.So they cast him out of the vineyard, and killed[ him]. What therefore shall the lord of the vineyard do unto them?
