Jotham waged war against the king of the Ammonites and conquered them. That year the Ammonites paid him a hundred talents of silver, ten thousand cors of wheat and ten thousand cors of barley. The Ammonites brought him the same amount also in the second and third years.

Jotham went to war against the king of Ammon. He won the battle over the Ammonites. That year they paid Jotham almost four tons of silver. They paid him 1,800 tons of wheat and 1,500 tons of barley. They also brought him the same amount in the second and third years.

He fought with the king of the Ammonites and prevailed against them. And the Ammonites gave him that year 100 talents of silver, and 10,000 cors of wheat and 10,000 of barley. The Ammonites paid him the same amount in the second and the third years.

Jotham went to war against the Ammonites and conquered them. Over the next three years he received from them an annual tribute of 7,500 pounds of silver, 50,000 bushels of wheat, and 50,000 bushels of barley.

He waged war against the king of the Ammonites. He overpowered the Ammonites, and that year they gave him 7,500 pounds of silver, 60,000 bushels of wheat, and 60,000 bushels of barley. They paid him the same in the second and third years.

He also fought with the king of the children of Ammon, and prevailed against them. The children of Ammon gave him the same year one hundred talents of silver, ten thousand cors of wheat, and ten thousand cors of barley. The children of Ammon also gave that much to him in the second year, and in the third.

过了些日子，亚扪人与以色列人争战。亚扪人与以色列人争战的时候，基列的众长老就去，把耶弗他从陀伯请回来。他们对耶弗他说：“请你来作我们的统帅，我们好攻打亚扪人。”耶弗他对基列的长老说：“从前你们不是恨我，赶逐我离开我的父家吗？现在你们遭遇患难的时候，为什么到我这里来呢？”基列的长老对耶弗他说：“现在我们回到你这里来，是要你与我们一同回去，与亚扪人争战，你要作我们基列所有居民的首领。”耶弗他对基列的长老说：“如果你们带我回去，攻打亚扪人，耶和华把他们交在我面前，那么我就可以作你们的首领吗？”基列的长老对耶弗他说：“有耶和华在我们中间作证，我们必定照着你的话行。”于是耶弗他与基列的长老一同回去了，众人就立耶弗他作他们的首领，作他们的统帅；耶弗他在米斯巴，在耶和华面前，把自己的一切话都说了出来。耶弗他派遣使者去见亚扪人的王，说：“我跟你有什么关系呢？你竟到我这里来攻打我的土地呢？”亚扪人的王对耶弗他的使者说：“因以色列人从埃及上来的时候，夺了我的土地，从亚嫩河到雅博河，直到约旦河；现在你要把它和和平平地交还。”耶弗他又再派使者去见亚扪人的王，对他说：“耶弗他这样说：‘以色列人并没有夺取过摩押地和亚扪人的土地。以色列人从埃及上来的时候，是走过旷野到红海，到了加低斯；就派遣使者去见以东王，说：求你让我们经过你的领土。以东王却不答应；又派遣使者去见摩押王，摩押王也不肯；以色列人就住在加低斯。以后，他们走过旷野，绕过以东地和摩押地，到了摩押地的东边，在亚嫩河那边安营；他们并没有进入摩押境内，因为亚嫩河是摩押的边界。以色列人又派遣使者去见亚摩利人的王西宏，就是希实本王，对他说：求你让我们经过你的领土，到我们自己的地方去。西宏却不信任以色列人，不让他们经过他的境界；西宏聚集了他所有的人民，在雅杂安营，与以色列人争战。耶和华以色列的神，把西宏和他所有的人民都交在以色列人手中，以色列人击杀了他们，夺取了住在那地的亚摩利人的全地，占领了亚摩利人四周的境界，从亚嫩河到雅博河，从旷野直到约旦河。现在耶和华以色列的神，已经把亚摩利人从他的子民以色列人面前赶走了，你竟要占有这地吗？你不是应占有你的神基抹要你占有的地吗？我们不是应占有耶和华我们的神，从我们面前赶走的人的一切地吗？现在难道你比摩押王西拨的儿子巴勒还强吗？他曾经与以色列人争竞吗？或是与以色列人交战过吗？以色列人住在希实本和属希实本的村镇，亚罗珥和亚罗珥的村镇，以及亚嫩河沿岸的一切城市，已经有三百年了；在这时期内，你们为什么没有夺回这些地方呢？我没有得罪你，你竟恶待我，攻打我；愿审判者耶和华今日在以色列人和亚扪人中间，判断是非。’”但亚扪人的王不听从耶弗他差派人去对他所说的话。那时耶和华的灵临到耶弗他身上，他就经过基列和玛拿西，经过基列的米斯巴，又从基列的米斯巴去到亚扪人那里。耶弗他向耶和华许愿，说：“如果你真的把亚扪人交在我手里，我从亚扪人那里平平安安回来的时候，无论谁先从我的家门出来迎接我，他就必归耶和华，我也必把他当作燔祭。”于是耶弗他去到亚扪人那里攻打他们，耶和华把他们交在他手里。于是他从亚罗珥开始击杀他们，去到米匿，直到亚备勒．基拉明，共二十座城，是一场大击杀；这样，亚扪人就在以色列人面前被制伏了。

后来，亚扪人的王死了，他的儿子哈嫩继承他作王。大卫说：“我要恩待拿辖的儿子哈嫩，像他父亲恩待我一样。”于是大卫差派自己的臣仆，为他丧父的事安慰他。大卫的臣仆到了亚扪人境内时，亚扪人的众领袖对他们的主哈嫩说：“大卫差派这些慰问的人到你这里来，你以为他是尊敬你父亲吗？他派遣臣仆到你这里来，不是为了要窥探这城，侦察清楚，然后把城倾覆吗？”于是哈嫩拿住大卫的臣仆，把他们的胡须剃去一半，又把他们的外袍割去半截，露出臀部，然后才放他们走。有人告诉大卫，他就派人去迎接他们，因为他们非常羞耻。王就说：“你们可以住在耶利哥，等到你们的胡须长长了才回来。”亚扪人知道大卫憎恶他们，就派人去招募伯‧利合的亚兰人和琐巴的亚兰人，步兵二万，玛迦王的人一千，陀伯人一万二千。大卫听见了，就差派约押和全体勇士出去。亚扪人出来，在城门前摆阵，琐巴和利合的亚兰人，陀伯人和玛迦人，也分别在郊野摆阵。约押看见自己前后受敌，就从以色列所有的精兵中，挑选一部分出来，使他们摆阵去迎战亚兰人，他把其余的人交在他兄弟亚比筛手下，使他们摆阵去迎战亚扪人。约押对亚比筛说：“如果亚兰人比我强，你就来帮助我。如果亚扪人比你强，我就去帮助你。你要刚强；为了我们的人民和我们神的众城镇，我们要刚强！愿耶和华成全他看为美的事。”于是约押和与他在一起的人前进，攻击亚兰人；亚兰人在约押面前逃跑。亚扪人看见亚兰人逃跑，他们也在亚比筛面前逃跑，逃进城里去了。约押就从亚扪人那里回来，回到耶路撒冷去了。

论到亚扪，耶和华这样说：“以色列没有子孙吗？没有后嗣吗？为什么米勒公竟承受了迦得为业呢？它的人民为什么住在迦得的城市里呢？因此，看哪！日子快到（这是耶和华的宣告），我必使战争的吶喊声响起，有敌人来攻击亚扪的拉巴；拉巴必成为一片废墟，属它的乡镇（“乡镇”原文作“女子”）必被火焚烧。那时以色列人必从侵略他们的人的手中收回土地。”这是耶和华说的。“希实本哪，你要哀号！因为艾城已被毁灭。拉巴的居民（“居民”原文作“女子”），你们要呼喊，要腰束麻布，要哀哭，要在城墙内跑来跑去。因为米勒公，以及事奉它的祭司和领袖，都必一同被掳去。背道的居民（“居民”原文作“女子”）哪！你们为什么因有山谷，就是你们那肥沃的山谷而夸口呢？你们十分倚靠自己的财宝，说：‘有谁敢来攻击我们呢？’看哪！我必使你们因四围的列国而恐慌，这是主万军之耶和华的宣告；你们必被赶逐，各自逃命，没有人把四散奔逃的人聚集起来。但我日后必使被掳的亚扪人归回。”这是耶和华的宣告。

后来，摩押人、亚扪人和一些米乌尼人（按照《马索拉文本》，“米乌尼人”作“亚扪人”；现参照《七十士译本》的一些文本翻译；参代下26:7），一同来攻击约沙法。
