Jotham waged war against the king of the Ammonites and conquered them. That year the Ammonites paid him a hundred talents of silver, ten thousand cors of wheat and ten thousand cors of barley. The Ammonites brought him the same amount also in the second and third years.

Jotham went to war against the king of Ammon. He won the battle over the Ammonites. That year they paid Jotham almost four tons of silver. They paid him 1,800 tons of wheat and 1,500 tons of barley. They also brought him the same amount in the second and third years.

He fought with the king of the Ammonites and prevailed against them. And the Ammonites gave him that year 100 talents of silver, and 10,000 cors of wheat and 10,000 of barley. The Ammonites paid him the same amount in the second and the third years.

Jotham went to war against the Ammonites and conquered them. Over the next three years he received from them an annual tribute of 7,500 pounds of silver, 50,000 bushels of wheat, and 50,000 bushels of barley.

He waged war against the king of the Ammonites. He overpowered the Ammonites, and that year they gave him 7,500 pounds of silver, 60,000 bushels of wheat, and 60,000 bushels of barley. They paid him the same in the second and third years.

He also fought with the king of the children of Ammon, and prevailed against them. The children of Ammon gave him the same year one hundred talents of silver, ten thousand cors of wheat, and ten thousand cors of barley. The children of Ammon also gave that much to him in the second year, and in the third.

過了些日子，亞捫人攻打以色列。亞捫人攻打以色列的時候，基列的長老到陀伯地去，要叫耶弗他回來；對耶弗他說：「請你來作我們的元帥，我們好與亞捫人爭戰。」耶弗他回答基列的長老說：「從前你們不是恨我、趕逐我出離父家嗎？現在你們遭遇急難為何到我這裏來呢？」基列的長老回答耶弗他說：「現在我們到你這裏來，是要你同我們去，與亞捫人爭戰；你可以作基列一切居民的領袖。」耶弗他對基列的長老說：「你們叫我回去，與亞捫人爭戰，耶和華把他交給我，我可以作你們的領袖嗎？」基列的長老回答耶弗他說：「有耶和華在你我中間作見證，我們必定照你的話行。」於是耶弗他同基列的長老回去，百姓就立耶弗他作領袖、作元帥。耶弗他在米斯巴將自己的一切話陳明在耶和華面前。耶弗他打發使者去見亞捫人的王，說：「你與我有甚麼相干，竟來到我國中攻打我呢？」亞捫人的王回答耶弗他的使者說：「因為以色列人從埃及上來的時候佔據我的地，從亞嫩河到雅博河，直到約旦河。現在你要好好地將這地歸還吧！」耶弗他又打發使者去見亞捫人的王，對他說：「耶弗他如此說，以色列人並沒有佔據摩押地和亞捫人的地。以色列人從埃及上來乃是經過曠野到紅海，來到加低斯，就打發使者去見以東王，說：『求你容我從你的地經過。』以東王卻不應允。又照樣打發使者去見摩押王，他也不允准。以色列人就住在加低斯。他們又經過曠野，繞着以東和摩押地，從摩押地的東邊過來，在亞嫩河邊安營，並沒有入摩押的境內，因為亞嫩河是摩押的邊界。以色列人打發使者去見亞摩利王西宏，就是希實本的王，對他說：『求你容我們從你的地經過，往我們自己的地方去。』西宏卻不信服以色列人，不容他們經過他的境界，乃招聚他的眾民在雅雜安營，與以色列人爭戰。耶和華－以色列的神將西宏和他的眾民都交在以色列人手中，以色列人就擊殺他們，得了亞摩利人的全地：從亞嫩河到雅博河，從曠野直到約旦河。耶和華－以色列的神在他百姓以色列面前趕出亞摩利人，你竟要得他們的地嗎？你的神基抹所賜你的地你不是得為業嗎？耶和華－我們的神在我們面前所趕出的人，我們就得他的地。難道你比摩押王西撥的兒子巴勒還強嗎？他曾與以色列人爭競，或是與他們爭戰嗎？以色列人住希實本和屬希實本的鄉村，亞羅珥和屬亞羅珥的鄉村，並沿亞嫩河的一切城邑，已經有三百年了；在這三百年之內，你們為甚麼沒有取回這些地方呢？原來我沒有得罪你，你卻攻打我，惡待我。願審判人的耶和華今日在以色列人和亞捫人中間判斷是非。」但亞捫人的王不肯聽耶弗他打發人說的話。耶和華的靈降在耶弗他身上，他就經過基列和瑪拿西，來到基列的米斯巴，又從米斯巴來到亞捫人那裏。耶弗他就向耶和華許願，說：「你若將亞捫人交在我手中，我從亞捫人那裏平平安安回來的時候，無論甚麼人，先從我家門出來迎接我，就必歸你，我也必將他獻上為燔祭。」於是耶弗他往亞捫人那裏去，與他們爭戰；耶和華將他們交在他手中，他就大大殺敗他們，從亞羅珥到米匿，直到亞備勒‧基拉明，攻取了二十座城。這樣亞捫人就被以色列人制伏了。

此後，亞捫人的王死了，他兒子哈嫩接續他作王。大衛說：「我要照哈嫩的父親拿轄厚待我的恩典厚待哈嫩。」於是大衛差遣臣僕，為他喪父安慰他。大衛的臣僕到了亞捫人的境內。但亞捫人的首領對他們的主哈嫩說：「大衛差人來安慰你，你想他是尊敬你父親嗎？他差臣僕來不是詳察窺探、要傾覆這城嗎？」哈嫩便將大衛臣僕的鬍鬚剃去一半，又割斷他們下半截的衣服，使他們露出下體，打發他們回去。有人告訴大衛，他就差人去迎接他們，（因為他們甚覺羞恥），告訴他們說：「可以住在耶利哥，等到鬍鬚長起再回來。」亞捫人知道大衛憎惡他們，就打發人去，招募伯‧利合的亞蘭人和瑣巴的亞蘭人，步兵二萬，與瑪迦王的人一千、陀伯人一萬二千。大衛聽見了，就差派約押統帶勇猛的全軍出去。亞捫人出來，在城門前擺陣；瑣巴與利合的亞蘭人、陀伯人，並瑪迦人，另在郊野擺陣。約押看見敵人在他前後擺陣，就從以色列軍中挑選精兵，使他們對着亞蘭人擺陣。其餘的兵交與他兄弟亞比篩，對着亞捫人擺陣。約押對亞比篩說：「亞蘭人若強過我，你就來幫助我；亞捫人若強過你，我就去幫助你。我們都當剛強，為本國的民和神的城邑作大丈夫。願耶和華憑他的意旨而行！」於是，約押和跟隨他的人前進攻打亞蘭人；亞蘭人在約押面前逃跑。亞捫人見亞蘭人逃跑，他們也在亞比篩面前逃跑進城。約押就離開亞捫人那裏，回耶路撒冷去了。

論亞捫人。耶和華如此說：以色列沒有兒子嗎？沒有後嗣嗎？瑪勒堪為何得迦得之地為業呢？屬他的民為何住其中的城邑呢？耶和華說：日子將到，我必使人聽見打仗的喊聲，是攻擊亞捫人拉巴的喊聲。拉巴要成為亂堆；屬她的鄉村要被火焚燒。先前得以色列地為業的，此時以色列倒要得他們的地為業。這是耶和華說的。希實本哪，你要哀號，因為愛地變為荒場。拉巴的居民哪，要呼喊，以麻布束腰；要哭號，在籬笆中跑來跑去；因瑪勒堪和屬他的祭司、首領要一同被擄去。背道的民哪，你們為何因有山谷，就是水流的山谷誇張呢？為何倚靠財寶說：誰能來到我們這裏呢？主－萬軍之耶和華說：我要使恐嚇從四圍的人中臨到你們；你們必被趕出，各人一直前往，沒有人收聚逃民。後來我還要使被擄的亞捫人歸回。這是耶和華說的。

此後，摩押人和亞捫人，又有米烏尼人，一同來攻擊約沙法。
