Jotham waged war against the king of the Ammonites and conquered them. That year the Ammonites paid him a hundred talents of silver, ten thousand cors of wheat and ten thousand cors of barley. The Ammonites brought him the same amount also in the second and third years.

Jotham went to war against the king of Ammon. He won the battle over the Ammonites. That year they paid Jotham almost four tons of silver. They paid him 1,800 tons of wheat and 1,500 tons of barley. They also brought him the same amount in the second and third years.

He fought with the king of the Ammonites and prevailed against them. And the Ammonites gave him that year 100 talents of silver, and 10,000 cors of wheat and 10,000 of barley. The Ammonites paid him the same amount in the second and the third years.

Jotham went to war against the Ammonites and conquered them. Over the next three years he received from them an annual tribute of 7,500 pounds of silver, 50,000 bushels of wheat, and 50,000 bushels of barley.

He waged war against the king of the Ammonites. He overpowered the Ammonites, and that year they gave him 7,500 pounds of silver, 60,000 bushels of wheat, and 60,000 bushels of barley. They paid him the same in the second and third years.

He also fought with the king of the children of Ammon, and prevailed against them. The children of Ammon gave him the same year one hundred talents of silver, ten thousand cors of wheat, and ten thousand cors of barley. The children of Ammon also gave that much to him in the second year, and in the third.

过了些日子，亚扪人攻打以色列。亚扪人攻打以色列的时候，基列的长老去请耶弗他从陀伯地回来。他们对耶弗他说：“请你来作我们的指挥官，好让我们跟亚扪人打仗。”耶弗他对基列的长老说：“你们不是恨我，把我赶出父家吗？现在你们遭遇急难，为何到我这里来呢？”基列的长老对耶弗他说：“现在我们回到你这里，是要请你同我们去跟亚扪人打仗，作基列所有居民的领袖。”耶弗他对基列的长老说：“若你们请我回去跟亚扪人打仗，耶和华把他们交给我，我就作你们的领袖。”基列的长老对耶弗他说：“有耶和华在你我之间作证，我们必定照你的话做。”于是耶弗他与基列的长老同去，百姓就立耶弗他作他们的领袖和指挥官。耶弗他在米斯巴将他一切的事陈述在耶和华面前。耶弗他派使者到亚扪人的王那里，说：“你与我有什么相干，竟来到我这里攻打我的地呢？”亚扪人的王对耶弗他的使者说：“因为以色列从埃及上来的时候占据我的地，从亚嫩河到雅博河，直到约旦河。现在你要和平归还这些地方！”耶弗他又派使者到亚扪人的王那里，对他说：“耶弗他如此说：以色列并没有占据摩押地和亚扪人的地。以色列人从埃及上来，是经过旷野到红海，来到加低斯。那时，以色列派使者去以东王那里，说：‘求你让我穿越你的地。’以东王却不听。以色列又照样派使者去摩押王那里，他也不肯。于是以色列人就住在加低斯。他们又经过旷野，绕过以东地和摩押地，到摩押地的东边，在亚嫩河边安营，并没有进入摩押的境内，因为亚嫩河是摩押的边界。以色列派使者去亚摩利王，就是希实本王西宏那里；以色列对他说：‘求你让我们穿越你的地，到我自己的地方去。’西宏却不信任以色列，不让他们穿越他的疆界。他召集了他的众百姓在雅杂安营，与以色列争战。耶和华—以色列的神将西宏和他的众百姓都交在以色列手中，以色列人就击杀他们，占领了那地居民亚摩利人的全地。他们占领了亚摩利人所有的疆土，从亚嫩河到雅博河，从旷野直到约旦河。耶和华—以色列的神如今从他百姓以色列面前赶出亚摩利人，你竟要占领它吗？你不是已经得了你的神明基抹赐给你的地为业吗？耶和华—我们的神在我们面前所赶出的，我们也要得它为业。现在你比西拨的儿子摩押王巴勒还强吗？他真的曾与以色列争执，或是真的与他们争战了吗？以色列人住希实本和所属的乡镇，亚罗珥和所属的乡镇，以及沿着亚嫩河的一切城镇，已经有三百年了。在这期间，你们为什么不取回呢？我并没有得罪你，你却要攻打我，加害于我。愿审判人的耶和华今日在以色列人和亚扪人之间判断是非。”但亚扪人的王不听耶弗他传达给他的话。耶和华的灵降在耶弗他身上，他就经过基列和玛拿西，经过基列的米斯巴，又从基列的米斯巴过到亚扪人那里。耶弗他向耶和华许愿，说：“你若真的将亚扪人交在我手中，我从亚扪人那里平平安安回来的时候，无论谁先从我家门出来迎接我，就要归给耶和华，我必将他献上作为燔祭。”于是耶弗他往亚扪人那里去，与他们争战。耶和华将他们交在他手中，他就彻底击败他们，从亚罗珥到米匿，直到亚备勒‧基拉明，攻取了二十座城。这样，亚扪人就在以色列人面前被制伏了。

此后，亚扪人的王死了，他儿子哈嫩接续他作王。大卫说：“哈嫩的父亲拿辖怎样向我施恩，我也要怎样向哈嫩施恩。”于是大卫派臣仆为他的父亲安慰他。当大卫的臣仆到了亚扪人的境内，亚扪人的领袖对他们的主哈嫩说：“大卫派人来安慰你，你看他是要尊敬你父亲吗？大卫派臣仆到你这里，不是为了要窥探侦察，而倾覆这城吗？”哈嫩就抓住大卫的臣仆，把他们的胡须剃去一半，又割断他们下半截的袍子，露出下体，然后放了他们。有人告诉大卫，他就派人去迎接他们，因为这些人觉得很羞耻。王说：“可以住在耶利哥，等到胡须长出来再回来。”亚扪人看到大卫憎恶他们，就派人去雇用伯‧利合的亚兰人和琐巴的亚兰人，步兵二万，以及玛迦王的人一千、陀伯人一万二千。大卫听见了，就派约押和所有勇猛的军队出去。亚扪人出来，在城门前摆阵；琐巴与利合的亚兰人、陀伯人，以及玛迦人另外在郊野摆阵。约押看见战阵对着他前后摆列，就把从以色列所有精兵中挑选出来的，摆阵迎战亚兰人。他把其余的兵交在他兄弟亚比筛手里，亚比筛就摆阵迎战亚扪人。约押对亚比筛说：“亚兰人若强过我，你就来帮助我；亚扪人若强过你，我就去帮助你。你要刚强，我们要为自己的百姓，为我们神的城镇奋勇。愿耶和华照他所看为好的去做！”于是，约押和跟随他的士兵前进攻打亚兰人；亚兰人在他面前逃跑。亚扪人见亚兰人逃跑，他们也在亚比筛面前逃跑进城。约押就离开亚扪人，回耶路撒冷去了。

论亚扪人。耶和华如此说：以色列没有儿子吗？没有后嗣吗？米勒公为何承受迦得为业呢？属它的百姓为何住其中的城镇呢？看哪，日子将到，我必使人听见打仗的喊声，攻击亚扪人所住的拉巴的喊声。拉巴要成为废墟，属它的乡镇要被火焚烧。这是耶和华说的。先前承受以色列为业的，此时以色列倒要承受他们为业。这是耶和华说的。希实本哪，要哀号，因为爱地已成荒地。拉巴的乡镇哪，要呼喊，以麻布束腰；要哭号，在篱笆中往来奔跑；因米勒公和它的祭司、官长要一同被掳去。背道的民哪，你为何因有山谷，因有水流的山谷夸耀呢？为何倚靠自己的财宝，说：“谁能来到我们这里呢？”万军之主耶和华说：看哪，我要使惊吓从四围的邻邦临到你们；你们必被赶出，各人一直往前，无人收容难民。但后来，我却要使被掳的亚扪人归回。这是耶和华说的。

此后，摩押人和亚扪人，连同一些米乌尼人来攻击约沙法。
