Then these Levites set to work: from the Kohathites, Mahath son of Amasai and Joel son of Azariah; from the Merarites, Kish son of Abdi and Azariah son of Jehallelel; from the Gershonites, Joah son of Zimmah and Eden son of Joah;

Here are the Levites who went to work. Mahath and Joel were from the family line of Kohath. Mahath was the son of Amasai. Joel was the son of Azariah. Kish and Azariah were from the family line of Merari. Kish was the son of Abdi. Azariah was the son of Jehallelel. Joah and Eden were from the family line of Gershon. Joah was the son of Zimmah. Eden was the son of Joah.

Then the Levites arose, Mahath the son of Amasai, and Joel the son of Azariah, of the sons of the Kohathites; and of the sons of Merari, Kish the son of Abdi, and Azariah the son of Jehallelel; and of the Gershonites, Joah the son of Zimmah, and Eden the son of Joah;

Then these Levites got right to work: From the clan of Kohath: Mahath son of Amasai and Joel son of Azariah. From the clan of Merari: Kish son of Abdi and Azariah son of Jehallelel. From the clan of Gershon: Joah son of Zimmah and Eden son of Joah.

Then the Levites stood up: Mahath son of Amasai and Joel son of Azariah from the Kohathites; Kish son of Abdi and Azariah son of Jehallelel from the Merarites; Joah son of Zimmah and Eden son of Joah from the Gershonites;

Then the Levites arose: Mahath the son of Amasai and Joel the son of Azariah, from the sons of the Kohathites; and from the sons of Merari, Kish the son of Abdi and Azariah the son of Jehallelel; and from the Gershonites, Joah the son of Zimmah and Eden the son of Joah;

Then the Levites arose, Mahath, the son of Amasai, and Joel the son of Azariah, of the sons of the Kohathites; and of the sons of Merari, Kish the son of Abdi, and Azariah the son of Jehallelel; and of the Gershonites, Joah the son of Zimmah, and Eden the son of Joah;

Then the Levites stood up: Mahath son of Amasai and Joel son of Azariah from the Kohathites; Kish son of Abdi and Azariah son of Jehallelel from the Merarites; Joah son of Zimmah and Eden son of Joah from the Gershonites;

Then the Levites arose, Mahath the son of Amasai, and Joel the son of Azariah, of the sons of the Kohathites: and of the sons of Merari, Kish the son of Abdi, and Azariah the son of Jehalelel: and of the Gershonites; Joah the son of Zimmah, and Eden the son of Joah:

The following Levites prepared to carry out the king’s orders: From the Kohathites: Mahath son of Amasai and Joel son of Azariah; from the Merarites: Kish son of Abdi and Azariah son of Jehallelel; from the Gershonites: Joah son of Zimmah and Eden son of Joah;

Then the Levites arose, Mahath, the son of Amasai, and Joel the son of Azariah, of the sons of the Kohathites; and of the sons of Merari, Kish the son of Abdi, and Azariah the son of Jehallelel; and of the Gershonites, Joah the son of Zimmah, and Eden the son of Joah;

And the sons of Kohath by their families: Amram, Izehar, Hebron, and Uzziel.And the sons of Merari by their families: Mahli and Mushi. These are the families of the Levites by their fathers’ houses.

Their brethren, the sons of Merari, on the left hand, were Ethan the son of Kishi, the son of Abdi, the son of Malluch,

These are the names of the sons of Levi according to their generations: Gershon, Kohath, and Merari. And the years of the life of Levi were one hundred and thirty-seven.The sons of Gershon were Libni and Shimi according to their families.And the sons of Kohath were Amram, Izhar, Hebron, and Uzziel. And the years of the life of Kohath were one hundred and thirty-three.The sons of Merari were Mahli and Mushi. These are the families of Levi according to their generations.Now Amram took for himself Jochebed, his father’s sister, as wife; and she bore him Aaron and Moses. And the years of the life of Amram were one hundred and thirty-seven.The sons of Izhar were Korah, Nepheg, and Zichri.And the sons of Uzziel were Mishael, Elzaphan, and Zithri.Aaron took to himself Elisheba, daughter of Amminadab, sister of Nahshon, as wife; and she bore him Nadab, Abihu, Eleazar, and Ithamar.And the sons of Korah were Assir, Elkanah, and Abiasaph. These are the families of the Korahites.Eleazar, Aaron’s son, took for himself one of the daughters of Putiel as wife; and she bore him Phinehas. These are the heads of the fathers’ houses of the Levites according to their families.

Jehiel, Azaziah, Nahath, Asahel, Jerimoth, Jozabad, Eliel, Ismachiah, Mahath, and Benaiah were overseers under the hand of Cononiah and Shimei his brother, at the commandment of Hezekiah the king and Azariah the ruler of the house of God.

Of the Gershonites: Laadan and Shimei.The sons of Laadan: the first Jehiel, then Zetham and Joel— three in all.The sons of Shimei: Shelomith, Haziel, and Haran— three in all. These were the heads of the fathers’ houses of Laadan.And the sons of Shimei: Jahath, Zina, Jeush, and Beriah. These were the four sons of Shimei.Jahath was the first and Zizah the second. But Jeush and Beriah did not have many sons; therefore they were assigned as one father’s house.The sons of Kohath: Amram, Izhar, Hebron, and Uzziel— four in all.The sons of Amram: Aaron and Moses; and Aaron was set apart, he and his sons forever, that he should sanctify the most holy things, to burn incense before the Lord, to minister to Him, and to give the blessing in His name forever.Now the sons of Moses the man of God were reckoned to the tribe of Levi.The sons of Moses were Gershon and Eliezer.Of the sons of Gershon, Shebuel was the first.Of the descendants of Eliezer, Rehabiah was the first. And Eliezer had no other sons, but the sons of Rehabiah were very many.Of the sons of Izhar, Shelomith was the first.Of the sons of Hebron, Jeriah was the first, Amariah the second, Jahaziel the third, and Jekameam the fourth.Of the sons of Uzziel, Michah was the first and Jesshiah the second.The sons of Merari were Mahli and Mushi. The sons of Mahli were Eleazar and Kish.And Eleazar died, and had no sons, but only daughters; and their brethren, the sons of Kish, took them as wives.The sons of Mushi were Mahli, Eder, and Jeremoth— three in all.

These were the sons of Levi by their names: Gershon, Kohath, and Merari.

“ Take a census of the sons of Kohath from among the children of Levi, by their families, by their fathers’ house,from thirty years old and above, even to fifty years old, all who enter the service to do the work in the tabernacle of meeting.“ This is the service of the sons of Kohath in the tabernacle of meeting, relating to the most holy things:When the camp prepares to journey, Aaron and his sons shall come, and they shall take down the covering veil and cover the ark of the Testimony with it.Then they shall put on it a covering of badger skins, and spread over that a cloth entirely of blue; and they shall insert its poles.“ On the table of showbread they shall spread a blue cloth, and put on it the dishes, the pans, the bowls, and the pitchers for pouring; and the showbread shall be on it.They shall spread over them a scarlet cloth, and cover the same with a covering of badger skins; and they shall insert its poles.And they shall take a blue cloth and cover the lampstand of the light, with its lamps, its wick-trimmers, its trays, and all its oil vessels, with which they service it.Then they shall put it with all its utensils in a covering of badger skins, and put it on a carrying beam.“ Over the golden altar they shall spread a blue cloth, and cover it with a covering of badger skins; and they shall insert its poles.Then they shall take all the utensils of service with which they minister in the sanctuary, put them in a blue cloth, cover them with a covering of badger skins, and put them on a carrying beam.Also they shall take away the ashes from the altar, and spread a purple cloth over it.They shall put on it all its implements with which they minister there— the firepans, the forks, the shovels, the basins, and all the utensils of the altar— and they shall spread on it a covering of badger skins, and insert its poles.And when Aaron and his sons have finished covering the sanctuary and all the furnishings of the sanctuary, when the camp is set to go, then the sons of Kohath shall come to carry them; but they shall not touch any holy thing, lest they die.“ These are the things in the tabernacle of meeting which the sons of Kohath are to carry.“ The appointed duty of Eleazar the son of Aaron the priest is the oil for the light, the sweet incense, the daily grain offering, the anointing oil, the oversight of all the tabernacle, of all that is in it, with the sanctuary and its furnishings.”Then the Lord spoke to Moses and Aaron, saying:“ Do not cut off the tribe of the families of the Kohathites from among the Levites;but do this in regard to them, that they may live and not die when they approach the most holy things: Aaron and his sons shall go in and appoint each of them to his service and his task.But they shall not go in to watch while the holy things are being covered, lest they die.”

The sons of Levi were Gershon, Kohath, and Merari.These are the names of the sons of Gershon: Libni and Shimei.The sons of Kohath were Amram, Izhar, Hebron, and Uzziel.The sons of Merari were Mahli and Mushi.
