Then Solomon began to build the temple of the Lord in Jerusalem on Mount Moriah, where the Lord had appeared to his father David. It was on the threshing floor of Araunah the Jebusite, the place provided by David.

耶和华的天使吩咐迦得去告诉大卫在耶布斯人阿珥楠的麦场上为耶和华建一座祭坛。

所罗门在做以色列王的第四年二月，即西弗月，开始为耶和华建殿。那时正是以色列人离开埃及后第四百八十年。所罗门王为耶和华建造的殿长二十七米，宽九米，高十三米半。殿前的门廊和殿一样宽九米，深四米半。殿有精致的窗户。靠殿墙、围着外殿和内殿又造了三层厢房，底层宽二点二五米，中层宽二点七米，上层宽三点一米。厢房的横梁都搭在殿墙突出的地方，免得插入殿墙。建殿的石头都在采石场凿好了，建殿的时候听不到锤子、斧头或其他铁器的响声。底层厢房的进口在殿的南面，沿着一道螺旋楼梯可以通到第二层和第三层。殿建成后，殿顶装上香柏木的梁木和木板。靠着殿墙所造的厢房每一层高二点二五米，用香柏木的梁木与殿墙接连起来。耶和华对所罗门说：“关于你所建的这殿，若你遵行我的律例，顺从我的典章，谨守我的一切诫命，我必实现我对你父亲大卫的应许。我必住在以色列人当中，不抛弃我的以色列子民。”所罗门建造的殿落成了。

就在那天，迦得来见大卫，对他说：“你要去耶布斯人亚劳拿的麦场，在那里为耶和华筑一座坛。”大卫就照耶和华借迦得所说的话去了亚劳拿的麦场。亚劳拿看见王及他的臣仆来了，就上前俯伏在地，向王跪拜，说：“我主我王到仆人这里有什么事？”大卫说：“我要买你的麦场，好在这里为耶和华筑一座坛，使百姓当中的瘟疫止住。”亚劳拿说：“我主我王喜欢什么，就拿去献祭吧。这里有牛可以作燔祭，还有麦场的工具和牛轭可以作柴。王啊，仆人亚劳拿愿意把这一切都献给你，愿你的上帝耶和华悦纳你。”王却说：“不可，我一定要出钱买，我不愿意用白白得来之物作为燔祭献给我的上帝耶和华。”大卫就用六百克银子买了亚劳拿的麦场和牛。大卫在麦场上为耶和华建了一座坛，献上燔祭和平安祭，耶和华垂听了他的祷告，瘟疫就在以色列止住了。
