Then Solomon began to build the temple of the Lord in Jerusalem on Mount Moriah, where the Lord had appeared to his father David. It was on the threshing floor of Araunah the Jebusite, the place provided by David.

所羅門在做以色列王的第四年二月，即西弗月，開始為耶和華建殿。那時正是以色列人離開埃及後第四百八十年。所羅門王為耶和華建造的殿長二十七米，寬九米，高十三米半。殿前的門廊和殿一樣寬九米，深四米半。殿有精緻的窗戶。靠殿牆、圍著外殿和內殿又造了三層廂房，底層寬二點二五米，中層寬二點七米，上層寬三點一米。廂房的橫樑都搭在殿牆突出的地方，免得插入殿牆。建殿的石頭都在採石場鑿好了，建殿的時候聽不到錘子、斧頭或其他鐵器的響聲。底層廂房的進口在殿的南面，沿著一道螺旋樓梯可以通到第二層和第三層。殿建成後，殿頂裝上香柏木的梁木和木板。靠著殿牆所造的廂房每一層高二點二五米，用香柏木的梁木與殿牆接連起來。耶和華對所羅門說：「關於你所建的這殿，若你遵行我的律例，順從我的典章，謹守我的一切誡命，我必實現我對你父親大衛的應許。我必住在以色列人當中，不拋棄我的以色列子民。」所羅門建造的殿落成了。

就在那天，迦得來見大衛，對他說：「你要去耶布斯人亞勞拿的麥場，在那裡為耶和華築一座壇。」大衛就照耶和華藉迦得所說的話去了亞勞拿的麥場。亞勞拿看見王及他的臣僕來了，就上前俯伏在地，向王跪拜，說：「我主我王到僕人這裡有什麼事？」大衛說：「我要買你的麥場，好在這裡為耶和華築一座壇，使百姓當中的瘟疫止住。」亞勞拿說：「我主我王喜歡什麼，就拿去獻祭吧。這裡有牛可以作燔祭，還有麥場的工具和牛軛可以作柴。王啊，僕人亞勞拿願意把這一切都獻給你，願你的上帝耶和華悅納你。」王卻說：「不可，我一定要出錢買，我不願意用白白得來之物作為燔祭獻給我的上帝耶和華。」大衛就用六百克銀子買了亞勞拿的麥場和牛。大衛在麥場上為耶和華建了一座壇，獻上燔祭和平安祭，耶和華垂聽了他的禱告，瘟疫就在以色列止住了。
