He ordered the people living in Jerusalem to give the portion due the priests and Levites so they could devote themselves to the Law of the Lord.

我亦知利未人所應得之分、民不給之、故供役之利未人與謳歌者、各歸其田里、我斥責諸民長曰、天主之殿、何為遺棄、遂招集利未人、使仍供其職、猶大人眾以榖、酒、油之什一、攜入府庫、我使祭司示利米、文士撒督、及利未人毘大雅、為庫官、以司府庫、瑪他尼孫撒古珥子哈難助之、此數人甚忠、將民所進者分於同族兄弟、即其職也、

在錄入譜系三歲以上之男子外、又頒於日進主殿、循班列供役事盡職者、

凡土產、無論田產之穀、樹結之果、必輸十分之一、歸於主為聖、如人欲贖所應輸之什一、當於什一之外、加五分之一、凡牛群羊群應數之、每第十受印記、歸主為聖、毋較美惡、亦毋更易、如或更易、則所數與所易者俱為聖、不得復贖、
