Hezekiah gave an order to the people who were living in Jerusalem. He commanded them to give to the priests and Levites the share they owed them. Then the priests and Levites could give their full attention to the Law of the Lord.

I have given them to you by reason of the anointing, and to your sons, as a portion forever.This shall be yours of the most holy things from the fire: every offering of theirs, even every meal offering of theirs, and every sin offering of theirs, and every trespass offering of theirs, which they shall render to me, shall be most holy for you and for your sons.You shall eat of it like the most holy things. Every male shall eat of it. It shall be holy to you.“ This is yours, too: the wave offering of their gift, even all the wave offerings of the children of Israel. I have given them to you, and to your sons and to your daughters with you, as a portion forever. Everyone who is clean in your house shall eat of it.“ I have given to you all the best of the oil, all the best of the vintage, and of the grain, the first fruits of them which they give to Yahweh.The first- ripe fruits of all that is in their land, which they bring to Yahweh, shall be yours. Everyone who is clean in your house shall eat of it.“ Everything devoted in Israel shall be yours.Everything that opens the womb, of all flesh which they offer to Yahweh, both of man and animal, shall be yours. Nevertheless, you shall surely redeem the firstborn of man, and you shall redeem the firstborn of unclean animals.You shall redeem those who are to be redeemed of them from a month old, according to your estimation, for five shekels of money, according to the shekel of the sanctuary, which weighs twenty gerahs.“ But you shall not redeem the firstborn of a cow, or the firstborn of a sheep, or the firstborn of a goat. They are holy. You shall sprinkle their blood on the altar, and shall burn their fat for an offering made by fire, for a pleasant aroma to Yahweh.Their meat shall be yours, as the wave offering breast and as the right thigh, it shall be yours.All the wave offerings of the holy things which the children of Israel offer to Yahweh, I have given you and your sons and your daughters with you, as a portion forever. It is a covenant of salt forever before Yahweh to you and to your offspring with you.”Yahweh said to Aaron,“ You shall have no inheritance in their land, neither shall you have any portion among them. I am your portion and your inheritance among the children of Israel.“ To the children of Levi, behold, I have given all the tithe in Israel for an inheritance, in return for their service which they serve, even the service of the Tent of Meeting.

But let him who is taught in the word share all good things with him who teaches.

Will a man rob God? Yet you rob me! But you say,‘ How have we robbed you?’ In tithes and offerings.You are cursed with the curse; for you rob me, even this whole nation.Bring the whole tithe into the storehouse, that there may be food in my house, and test me now in this,” says Yahweh of Armies,“ if I will not open you the windows of heaven, and pour you out a blessing, that there will not be room enough for.

For it is written in the law of Moses,“ You shall not muzzle an ox while it treads out the grain.” Is it for the oxen that God cares,or does he say it assuredly for our sake? Yes, it was written for our sake, because he who plows ought to plow in hope, and he who threshes in hope should partake of his hope.If we sowed to you spiritual things, is it a great thing if we reap your fleshly things?If others partake of this right over you, don’t we yet more? Nevertheless we didn’t use this right, but we bear all things, that we may cause no hindrance to the Good News of Christ.Don’t you know that those who serve around sacred things eat from the things of the temple, and those who wait on the altar have their portion with the altar?Even so the Lord ordained that those who proclaim the Good News should live from the Good News.

I perceived that the portions of the Levites had not been given them; so that the Levites and the singers, who did the work, had each fled to his field.Then I contended with the rulers, and said,“ Why is God’s house forsaken?” I gathered them together, and set them in their place.Then all Judah brought the tithe of the grain, the new wine, and the oil to the treasuries.I made treasurers over the treasuries, Shelemiah the priest, and Zadok the scribe, and of the Levites, Pedaiah: and next to them was Hanan the son of Zaccur, the son of Mattaniah; for they were counted faithful, and their business was to distribute to their brothers.

in addition to those who were listed by genealogy of males, from three years old and upward, even everyone who entered into Yahweh’s house, as the duty of every day required, for their service in their offices according to their divisions;

“ Moreover you shall speak to the Levites, and tell them,‘ When you take of the children of Israel the tithe which I have given you from them for your inheritance, then you shall offer up a wave offering of it for Yahweh, a tithe of the tithe.Your wave offering shall be credited to you, as though it were the grain of the threshing floor, and as the fullness of the wine press.Thus you also shall offer a wave offering to Yahweh of all your tithes, which you receive of the children of Israel; and of it you shall give Yahweh’s wave offering to Aaron the priest.

“‘ All the tithe of the land, whether of the seed of the land or of the fruit of the trees, is Yahweh’s. It is holy to Yahweh.If a man redeems anything of his tithe, he shall add a fifth part to it.All the tithe of the herds or the flocks, whatever passes under the rod, the tenth shall be holy to Yahweh.He shall not examine whether it is good or bad, neither shall he exchange it. If he exchanges it at all, then both it and that for which it is exchanged shall be holy. It shall not be redeemed.’”
