啊，許多外族之民的喧嘩！他們喧嘩，正如諸水之喧嘩；啊，外國之民的怒號！他們的怒號，就像眾水之怒號。外國之民怒號着，就像大水之怒號。但上帝叱責他們，他們就遠遠地逃跑，又被追趕、如同山上的風前糠，又如暴風前的滾轉草。傍晚時分有恐怖！未到早晨，他們就沒有了！這是搶掠我們者所得的分，是掠劫我們者所受的報應。

就在那一天夜裏、永恆主的使者就出來，在亞述營中擊殺了十八萬五千人；第二天早晨、人清早起來，哎呀，都是死屍。亞述王西拿基立拔了營走，就回去，住在尼尼微。他在他的神尼斯洛廟裏叩拜的時候，亞得米勒、他兒子、和沙利色、用刀弒殺了他，逃到亞拉臘地。他兒子以撒哈頓接替他作王。

惟獨你可畏懼；誰能在你面前站得住你的怒氣呢？

主的使者立時擊打希律，因為他不將榮耀歸與上帝，他被蟲子咬，就氣絕了。

傲慢來，恥辱也來；謙遜人卻有智慧在心。

永恆主說：『現在我要起來；現在我要奮起；現在我要舉起自己。你們孕懷着乾草，產生了碎稭；你們的氣就是火、是那吞滅你們自己的。萬族之民必像石灰之焚燒，像割斷的荊條，在火中燒燬掉。』

我耶和華，這是我的名；我的榮耀、我不給予別的神，我受的稱讚、我不給雕刻的像。

我的上帝差遣了他的使者、封住獅子的口，叫獅子不傷害我；因為我在上帝面前他都見我無辜；在你面前、王啊，我也沒有行過害人的事。』

因為他說：『我的將帥不都是王麼？

因為永恆主擴大他所立的王的勝利；他向他所膏立的、向大衛和他的後裔、施堅愛到永遠。

天使向耶路撒冷伸手要殺滅城裏的人，永恆主就後悔、不降這災，便對那殺滅人民的天使說：『夠了；現在放手吧。』那時永恆主的使者在耶布斯人亞勞拿的禾場附近。

永恆主必使人聽他威嚴的聲音，使人看他膀臂之下擊，他忿怒中的震怒、和吞滅的火燄、傾盆大雨、暴風、冰雹。永恆主使杖擊打的時候，亞述人必因永恆主的聲音而驚慌。永恆主所加於他身上的懲罰之杖、每打一下，就有擊鼓彈琴的聲音；永恆主必用掄起來的打仗之手跟他交戰。因為有一個焚燒處早已安排好了，居然又是為了君王而豫備的，又深又寬；它堆的是火跟許多木柴；永恆主的氣如一條硫磺火流，把它點𤏲起來。

亞摩斯的兒子以賽亞就打發人去見希西家，說：『永恆主以色列的上帝這麼說：「你既然向我禱告關於亞述王西拿基立的事，

惡人在今世之完結也必這樣。天使必出來，把惡人從義人中分別出來，丟在火爐裏；在那裏必有哀哭和切齒。』

尼布甲尼撒應時說：『沙得拉、米煞、亞伯尼歌的上帝是應當受祝頌的；他差遣他的使者，解救了他的僕人，就是那些信靠他的；他們挫折了王的命令，情願捨棄自己的身體，除了拜自己的上帝以外，不肯事奉任何神，不肯向任何神下拜。

我必使他的仇敵披上羞辱；但他的冠冕必在他頭上發光。』

心膽剛勇的人都被掠奪；他們睡了長覺，大有威力的人都不能有所措手。

看吧，主萬軍之永恆主以可怕的震撼力砍削樹枝：身量高的必被砍下，高昂的必被伐低。森林的叢藪、他必用鐵器去斫伐；利巴嫩的樹、他必用斧子去伐倒。

若不然，你怎能使我主上最小的臣僕之中之一個軍長轉臉而逃呢？你竟倚靠埃及要得戰車和駿馬呀！

先狂傲、然後遭破毁；先有高傲之氣、然後就跌倒。

地上的君王、大官、千夫長、富戶、壯士、和一切為奴的、自主的、都藏在洞窟和山上的磐石裏；向山和磐石說：『倒在我們身上吧，把我們藏起來，好躲避坐寶座者的面目和羔羊的義怒哦。』

他心裏有智慧，並且能力強大；誰向上帝強硬、還得安全呢？

但你敵人的蜂擁軍兵卻要像微細的飛塵，強橫的蜂擁軍兵都要像飛過的糠粃；而這又是頃刻之間、突然而來的。她必被萬軍之永恆主用雷轟、地震、大聲、暴風、旋風、和吞滅人的火燄、所察罰。那時那些攻擊亞利伊勒的列國軍眾、就是一切攻擊她和她的營寨、以及那窘迫她的、必都像夢景，像夜間的異象。也必像肚子餓的人在作夢；夢見在喫呢！趕到醒來，肚子仍覺虛空！或像口渴的人在作夢；夢見在喝呢！趕到醒來，仍覺疲乏，心裏仍渴慕着。那攻擊錫安山的列國軍眾也必這樣。

因此主萬軍之永恆主必打發消瘦去在亞述王的肥胖中，在他的威榮下就有燃燒燒起，如火燃燒一樣。以色列的光必成為火，他的聖者必成為火燄，一日之間就把亞述王的荊棘和蒺藜焚燬燒滅。又把他的樹林和園地之華美連魂帶體全都滅盡，他就像熔化之物之熔化一樣。他林中剩下的樹、數目必然稀少，就是小孩子也能記下來。

我看見有一位天使站在日頭中、向天頂點上一切飛着的鳥大聲喊着說：『你們來，聚集來赴上帝的大筵席，好喫君王的肉、千夫長的肉、壯士的肉、馬和騎馬者的肉、自主的為奴的、小的大的、眾人的肉。』
