當那些日子、希西家病得要死。亞摩斯的兒子神言人以賽亞去見他，對他說：『永恆主這麼說：「你該立遺囑理家事，因為你一定死，你活不了啦。」』希西家就轉臉朝牆，禱告永恆主說：『哦，永恆主啊，求你記得：我怎樣以純全的心忠誠誠地在你面前往來，又怎樣行你所看為善的事。』禱告完了，希西家就大哭一場。以賽亞出來，還沒有到中院，永恆主的話就傳與他、說：『你回去，對我子民的人君希西家說：「永恆主你祖大衛的上帝這麼說：你的禱告我聽見了；你的眼淚我看見了；看吧，我必將你醫好，第三天你就能上永恆主的殿。我必增加你在世的日子十五年；我必援救你和這城脫離亞述王的手掌；為了我自己的緣故、又為了我僕人大衛的緣故、我必圍護這城。』以賽亞說：『取一塊無花果餅來』；人就取了來，貼在瘡上，王就復了元。』希西家問以賽亞說：『永恆主必將我醫好，第三天我就能上永恆主的殿：有甚麼兆頭呢？』以賽亞說：『永恆主必成就他所說到的事；他所要給你的兆頭是這樣：日影必向前進十步呢？或是要往後退十步呢？』希西家說：『日影向前斜照十步比較容易；不，我要日影往後退十步。』神言人以賽亞向永恆主呼求，永恆主就使臺階上的日影、在亞哈斯臺階上所照下的、往後退了十步。

以賽亞曾說：『讓人拿一塊無花果餅來，摩擦在瘡上，使王復元。』希西家也曾經問說：『我能上永恆主的殿、有甚麼兆頭啊？』
