Then all the men of Judah and Benjamin gathered themselves together unto Jerusalem within three days. It[ was] the ninth month, on the twentieth[ day] of the month; and all the people sat in the street of the house of God, trembling because of[ this] matter, and for the great rain.

All these[ were] the rulers of the substance which[ was] king David’s.Also Jonathan David’s uncle was a counsellor, a wise man, and a scribe: and Jehiel the son of Hachmoni[ was] with the king’s sons:And Ahithophel[ was] the king’s counsellor: and Hushai the Archite[ was] the king’s companion:And after Ahithophel[ was] Jehoiada the son of Benaiah, and Abiathar: and the general of the king’s army[ was] Joab.

And all the people gathered themselves together as one man into the street that[ was] before the water gate; and they spake unto Ezra the scribe to bring the book of the law of Moses, which the LORD had commanded to Israel.And Ezra the priest brought the law before the congregation both of men and women, and all that could hear with understanding, upon the first day of the seventh month.And he read therein before the street that[ was] before the water gate from the morning until midday, before the men and the women, and those that could understand; and the ears of all the people[ were attentive] unto the book of the law.
