“我們的神啊，你是至大、全能、至可畏、守約施慈愛的神，現在求你不要把我們、我們的君王和領袖、我們的祭司和先知、我們的列祖和你的眾民，從亞述列王的日子直到今日所遭遇的一切苦難，看為小事。

因為他說：“在我手下的眾領袖不都是王嗎？

他們若被鎖鍊捆住，被苦難的繩索纏住，他就把他們的作為和過犯都顯示，使他們知道他們驕傲自大。他開啟他們的耳朵可以領受教訓，吩咐他們離開罪孽而悔改。他們若聽從他、事奉他，就必幸福地度盡他們的日子，也必快樂地度過他們的歲月。

他們有些人坐在黑暗和死蔭裡，被困苦和鐵鍊捆鎖著；因為他們違背了神的話，藐視了至高者的旨意。所以神用苦難治服他們的心；他們跌倒，也沒有人幫助。他們在急難中呼求耶和華，耶和華就拯救他們脫離困苦。他從黑暗裡和死蔭中把他們領出來，弄斷他們的鎖鍊。

這地豐富的出產都歸給列王，就是你因我們的罪派來管轄我們的；他們也隨意管轄我們的身體和我們的牲畜；我們遭遇大患難。

若不能，你怎能擊退我主的臣僕中最小的軍長呢？你竟倚靠埃及的戰車和馬兵嗎？
