When he takes the throne of his kingdom, he is to write for himself on a scroll a copy of this law, taken from that of the Levitical priests.It is to be with him, and he is to read it all the days of his life so that he may learn to revere the Lord his God and follow carefully all the words of this law and these decreesand not consider himself better than his fellow Israelites and turn from the law to the right or to the left. And all the people listened attentively to the Book of the Law.Ezra the teacher of the Law stood on a high wooden platform built for the occasion. Beside him on his right stood Mattithiah, Shema, Anaiah, Uriah, Hilkiah and Maaseiah; and on his left were Pedaiah, Mishael, Malkijah, Hashum, Hashbaddanah, Zechariah and Meshullam.Ezra opened the book. All the people could see him because he was standing above them; and as he opened it, the people all stood up. (niv)

In the third year of his reign he sent his officials Ben-Hail, Obadiah, Zechariah, Nethanel and Micaiah to teach in the towns of Judah.With them were certain Levites— Shemaiah, Nethaniah, Zebadiah, Asahel, Shemiramoth, Jehonathan, Adonijah, Tobijah and Tob-Adonijah— and the priests Elishama and Jehoram.They taught throughout Judah, taking with them the Book of the Law of the Lord; they went around to all the towns of Judah and taught the people. Not only was the Teacher wise, but he also imparted knowledge to the people. He pondered and searched out and set in order many proverbs.The Teacher searched to find just the right words, and what he wrote was upright and true. (niv)

The small and the great are there, and the slaves are freed from their owners. (niv)

Then Solomon said,“ The Lord has said that he would dwell in a dark cloud;I have built a magnificent temple for you, a place for you to dwell forever.”While the whole assembly of Israel was standing there, the king turned around and blessed them.Then he said:“ Praise be to the Lord, the God of Israel, who with his hands has fulfilled what he promised with his mouth to my father David. For he said,‘ Since the day I brought my people out of Egypt, I have not chosen a city in any tribe of Israel to have a temple built so that my Name might be there, nor have I chosen anyone to be ruler over my people Israel.But now I have chosen Jerusalem for my Name to be there, and I have chosen David to rule my people Israel.’“ My father David had it in his heart to build a temple for the Name of the Lord, the God of Israel.But the Lord said to my father David,‘ You did well to have it in your heart to build a temple for my Name.Nevertheless, you are not the one to build the temple, but your son, your own flesh and blood— he is the one who will build the temple for my Name.’“ The Lord has kept the promise he made. I have succeeded David my father and now I sit on the throne of Israel, just as the Lord promised, and I have built the temple for the Name of the Lord, the God of Israel.There I have placed the ark, in which is the covenant of the Lord that he made with the people of Israel.” (niv)

Then Shaphan the secretary informed the king,“ Hilkiah the priest has given me a book.” And Shaphan read from it in the presence of the king.When the king heard the words of the Law, he tore his robes. (niv)

Do not show partiality in judging; hear both small and great alike. Do not be afraid of anyone, for judgment belongs to God. Bring me any case too hard for you, and I will hear it.” (niv)

The king gave this order to all the people:“ Celebrate the Passover to the Lord your God, as it is written in this Book of the Covenant.” (niv)

Now the king of Aram had ordered his chariot commanders,“ Do not fight with anyone, small or great, except the king of Israel.” (niv)

‘ This is what the Lord says: I am going to bring disaster on this place and its people— all the curses written in the book that has been read in the presence of the king of Judah. (niv)
