and said,“ O Lord, God of our fathers, are you not God in heaven? You rule over all the kingdoms of the nations. In your hand are power and might, so that none is able to withstand you.Did you not, our God, drive out the inhabitants of this land before your people Israel, and give it forever to the descendants of Abraham your friend?And they have lived in it and have built for you in it a sanctuary for your name, saying,‘ If disaster comes upon us, the sword, judgment, or pestilence, or famine, we will stand before this house and before you— for your name is in this house— and cry out to you in our affliction, and you will hear and save.’And now behold, the men of Ammon and Moab and Mount Seir, whom you would not let Israel invade when they came from the land of Egypt, and whom they avoided and did not destroy—behold, they reward us by coming to drive us out of your possession, which you have given us to inherit.O our God, will you not execute judgment on them? For we are powerless against this great horde that is coming against us. We do not know what to do, but our eyes are on you.”Meanwhile all Judah stood before the Lord, with their little ones, their wives, and their children.

Then Hezekiah the king and Isaiah the prophet, the son of Amoz, prayed because of this and cried to heaven.And the Lord sent an angel, who cut off all the mighty warriors and commanders and officers in the camp of the king of Assyria. Deuteronomy 20:1-4
“ When you go out to war against your enemies, and see horses and chariots and an army larger than your own, you shall not be afraid of them, for the Lord your God is with you, who brought you up out of the land of Egypt.And when you draw near to the battle, the priest shall come forward and speak to the peopleand shall say to them,‘ Hear, O Israel, today you are drawing near for battle against your enemies: let not your heart faint. Do not fear or panic or be in dread of them,for the Lord your God is he who goes with you to fight for you against your enemies, to give you the victory.’

Joshua 8:1-8
And the Lord said to Joshua,“ Do not fear and do not be dismayed. Take all the fighting men with you, and arise, go up to Ai. See, I have given into your hand the king of Ai, and his people, his city, and his land.And you shall do to Ai and its king as you did to Jericho and its king. Only its spoil and its livestock you shall take as plunder for yourselves. Lay an ambush against the city, behind it.”So Joshua and all the fighting men arose to go up to Ai. And Joshua chose 30,000 mighty men of valor and sent them out by night.And he commanded them,“ Behold, you shall lie in ambush against the city, behind it. Do not go very far from the city, but all of you remain ready.And I and all the people who are with me will approach the city. And when they come out against us just as before, we shall flee before them.And they will come out after us, until we have drawn them away from the city. For they will say,‘ They are fleeing from us, just as before.’ So we will flee before them.Then you shall rise up from the ambush and seize the city, for the Lord your God will give it into your hand.And as soon as you have taken the city, you shall set the city on fire. You shall do according to the word of the Lord. See, I have commanded you.”

Zerah the Ethiopian came out against them with an army of a million men and 300 chariots, and came as far as Mareshah.And Asa went out to meet him, and they drew up their lines of battle in the Valley of Zephathah at Mareshah.And Asa cried to the Lord his God,“ O Lord, there is none like you to help, between the mighty and the weak. Help us, O Lord our God, for we rely on you, and in your name we have come against this multitude. O Lord, you are our God; let not man prevail against you.”So the Lord defeated the Ethiopians before Asa and before Judah, and the Ethiopians fled.
