For the next seven days Solomon and all Israel celebrated the Festival of Shelters. A large congregation had gathered from as far away as Lebo hamath in the north and the Brook of Egypt in the south.

So Solomon and all Israel with him— a very great assembly, from the entrance to Hamath to the Brook of Egypt— observed the festival at that time for seven days.

Then on the second day the heads of fathers’ households of all the people, the priests, and the Levites were gathered to Ezra the scribe so that they might gain insight into the words of the Law.And they found written in the Law how the Lord had commanded through Moses that the sons of Israel were to live in booths during the feast of the seventh month.And that they were to proclaim and circulate a proclamation in all their cities and in Jerusalem, saying,“ Go out to the hills, and bring olive branches and wild olive branches, myrtle branches, palm branches, and branches of other trees with thick branches, to make booths, as it is written.”So the people went out and brought them and made booths for themselves, each on his roof, and in their courtyards and in the courtyards of the house of God, and in the public square at the Water Gate, and in the square at the Gate of Ephraim.The entire assembly of those who had returned from the captivity made booths and lived in the booths. Now Solomon was ruling over all the kingdoms from the Euphrates River to the land of the Philistines and to the border of Egypt; they brought tribute and served Solomon all the days of his life.Solomon’s provision for one day was thirty kors of fine flour and sixty kors of meal,ten fat oxen, twenty pasture fed oxen, and a hundred sheep, besides deer, gazelles, roebucks, and fattened geese.For he was ruling over everything west of the Euphrates River, from Tiphsah even to Gaza, over all the kings west of the River; and he had peace on all sides surrounding him.So Judah and Israel lived securely, everyone under his vine and his fig tree, from Dan even to Beersheba, all the days of Solomon.

‘ Then on the fifteenth day of the seventh month you shall have a holy assembly; you shall do no laborious work, and you shall celebrate with a feast to the Lord for seven days.You shall present a burnt offering, an offering by fire as a soothing aroma to the Lord: thirteen bulls, two rams, and fourteen male lambs one year old, which are without defect;and their grain offering, fine flour mixed with oil: three tenths of an ephah for each of the thirteen bulls, two tenths for each of the two rams,and a tenth for each of the fourteen lambs;and one male goat as a sin offering, besides the continual burnt offering, its grain offering, and its drink offering.‘ Then on the second day: twelve bulls, two rams, and fourteen male lambs one year old without defect;and their grain offering and their drink offerings for the bulls, for the rams, and for the lambs, by their number according to the ordinance;and one male goat as a sin offering, besides the continual burnt offering and its grain offering, and their drink offerings.‘ Then on the third day: eleven bulls, two rams, and fourteen male lambs one year old without defect;and their grain offering and their drink offerings for the bulls, for the rams, and for the lambs, by their number according to the ordinance;and one male goat as a sin offering, besides the continual burnt offering and its grain offering, and its drink offering.‘ Then on the fourth day: ten bulls, two rams, and fourteen male lambs one year old without defect;their grain offering and their drink offerings for the bulls, for the rams, and for the lambs, by their number according to the ordinance;and one male goat as a sin offering, besides the continual burnt offering, its grain offering, and its drink offering.‘ Then on the fifth day: nine bulls, two rams, and fourteen male lambs one year old without defect;and their grain offering and their drink offerings for the bulls, for the rams, and for the lambs, by their number according to the ordinance;and one male goat as a sin offering, besides the continual burnt offering and its grain offering, and its drink offering.‘ Then on the sixth day: eight bulls, two rams, and fourteen male lambs one year old without defect;and their grain offering and their drink offerings for the bulls, for the rams, and for the lambs, by their number according to the ordinance;and one male goat as a sin offering, besides the continual burnt offering, its grain offering, and its drink offerings.‘ Then on the seventh day: seven bulls, two rams, and fourteen male lambs one year old without defect;and their grain offering and their drink offerings for the bulls, for the rams, and for the lambs, by their number according to the ordinance;and one male goat as a sin offering, besides the continual burnt offering, its grain offering, and its drink offering.‘ On the eighth day you shall have a sacred assembly; you shall do no laborious work.But you shall present a burnt offering, an offering by fire, as a soothing aroma to the Lord: one bull, one ram, and seven male lambs one year old without defect;their grain offering and their drink offerings for the bull, for the ram, and for the lambs, by their number according to the ordinance;and one male goat as a sin offering, besides the continual burnt offering and its grain offering, and its drink offering.

“ Speak to the sons of Israel, saying,‘ On the fifteenth of this seventh month is the Feast of Booths for seven days to the Lord.On the first day is a holy convocation; you shall not do any laborious work.For seven days you shall present an offering by fire to the Lord. On the eighth day you shall have a holy convocation and present an offering by fire to the Lord; it is an assembly. You shall not do any laborious work.‘ These are the appointed times of the Lord which you shall proclaim as holy convocations, to present offerings by fire to the Lord— burnt offerings and grain offerings, sacrifices and drink offerings, each day’s matter on its own day—besides those of the Sabbaths of the Lord, and besides your gifts and besides all your vowed and voluntary offerings, which you give to the Lord.‘ On exactly the fifteenth day of the seventh month, when you have gathered in the crops of the land, you shall celebrate the feast of the Lord for seven days, with a rest on the first day and a rest on the eighth day.Now on the first day you shall take for yourselves the foliage of beautiful trees, palm branches and branches of trees with thick branches and willows of the brook, and you shall rejoice before the Lord your God for seven days.So you shall celebrate it as a feast to the Lord for seven days in the year. It shall be a permanent statute throughout your generations; you shall celebrate it in the seventh month.You shall live in booths for seven days; all the native born in Israel shall live in booths,so that your generations may know that I had the sons of Israel live in booths when I brought them out from the land of Egypt. I am the Lord your God.’ ”

Now the feast of the Jews, the Feast of Booths, was near.

“ For behold, I am going to raise up a nation against you, House of Israel,” declares the Lord God of armies,“ And they will torment you from the entrance of Hamath To the brook of the Arabah.”

However, we know where this man is from; but when the Christ comes, no one knows where He is from.”Then Jesus cried out in the temple, teaching and saying,“ You both know Me and you know where I am from; and I have not come of Myself, but He who sent Me is true, whom you do not know.I do know Him, because I am from Him, and He sent Me.”So they were seeking to arrest Him; and yet no one laid a hand on Him, because His hour had not yet come.But many of the crowd believed in Him; and they were saying,“ When the Christ comes, He will not perform more signs than those which this man has done, will He?”The Pharisees heard the crowd whispering these things about Him, and the chief priests and the Pharisees sent officers to arrest Him.Therefore Jesus said,“ For a little while longer I am going to be with you, and then I am going to Him who sent Me.You will seek Me, and will not find Me; and where I am, you cannot come.”The Jews then said to one another,“ Where does this man intend to go that we will not find Him? He does not intend to go to the Dispersion among the Greeks, and teach the Greeks, does He?What is this statement that He said,‘ You will seek Me, and will not find Me; and where I am, you cannot come’?”Now on the last day, the great day of the feast, Jesus stood and cried out, saying,“ If anyone is thirsty, let him come to Me and drink.The one who believes in Me, as the Scripture said,‘ From his innermost being will flow rivers of living water.’ ”But this He said in reference to the Spirit, whom those who believed in Him were to receive; for the Spirit was not yet given, because Jesus was not yet glorified.

Now many people were gathered at Jerusalem to celebrate the Feast of Unleavened Bread in the second month, a very large assembly.

“ You shall celebrate the Feast of Booths for seven days when you have gathered in from your threshing floor and your wine vat;and you shall rejoice in your feast, you, your son and your daughter, and your male and female slaves, and the Levite, the stranger, the orphan, and the widow who are in your towns.For seven days you shall celebrate a feast to the Lord your God in the place which the Lord chooses, because the Lord your God will bless you in all your produce and in all the work of your hands, so that you will be altogether joyful.

Then it will come about that any who are left of all the nations that came against Jerusalem will go up from year to year to worship the King, the Lord of armies, and to celebrate the Feast of Booths.And it will be that whichever of the families of the earth does not go up to Jerusalem to worship the King, the Lord of armies, there will be no rain on them.And if the family of Egypt does not go up or enter, then no rain will fall on them; it will be the plague with which the Lord strikes the nations that do not go up to celebrate the Feast of Booths.This will be the punishment of Egypt, and the punishment of all the nations that do not go up to celebrate the Feast of Booths.

from the Shihor which is east of Egypt, even as far as the border of Ekron to the north( it is counted as Canaanite); the five governors of the Philistines: the Gazite, the Ashdodite, the Ashkelonite, the Gittite, the Ekronite; and the Avviteto the south, all the land of the Canaanite, and Mearah that belongs to the Sidonians, as far as Aphek, to the border of the Amorite;and the land of the Gebalite, and all of Lebanon, toward the east, from Baal gad below Mount Hermon as far as Lebo hamath.
