因为有人说：“保罗的书信又严厉又强硬，但他亲身在的时候却是软弱的人，他的言语也被藐视。”

有言我書嚴厲、及晤對時、身柔言鄙、

有人言、我書嚴厲、及至晤會時、身弱言陋、

頗聞人言：『彼之書札、雖雷厲風行；而彼之形軀、則柔弱無能、言語更無足輕重。』

For some say,“ His letters are weighty and forceful, but in person he is unimpressive and his speaking amounts to nothing.”

Some say,“ His letters sound important. They are powerful. But in person he doesn’t seem like much. And what he says doesn’t amount to anything.”

For they say,“ His letters are weighty and strong, but his bodily presence is weak, and his speech of no account.”

For some say,“ Paul’s letters are demanding and forceful, but in person he is weak, and his speeches are worthless!”

For it is said,“ His letters are weighty and powerful, but his physical presence is weak and his public speaking amounts to nothing.”

For they say,“ His letters are weighty and strong, but his personal presence is unimpressive and his speech contemptible.”

“ For his letters,” they say,“ are weighty and powerful, but his bodily presence is weak, and his speech contemptible.”

For, His letters, they say, are weighty and strong; but his bodily presence is weak, and his speech of no account.

For it is said,“ His letters are weighty and powerful, but his physical presence is weak, and his public speaking is despicable.”

For[ his] letters, say they,[ are] weighty and powerful; but[ his] bodily presence[ is] weak, and[ his] speech contemptible.

because some say,“ His letters are weighty and forceful, but his physical presence is weak and his speech is of no account.”

For,“ His letters”, they say,“ are weighty and strong, but his bodily presence is weak, and his speech is despised.”

For Christ did not send me to baptize, but to preach the gospel— not with wisdom and eloquence, lest the cross of Christ be emptied of its power. (niv)

As you know, it was because of an illness that I first preached the gospel to you,and even though my illness was a trial to you, you did not treat me with contempt or scorn. Instead, you welcomed me as if I were an angel of God, as if I were Christ Jesus himself. (niv)

I may indeed be untrained as a speaker, but I do have knowledge. We have made this perfectly clear to you in every way. (niv)

I will boast about a man like that, but I will not boast about myself, except about my weaknesses.Even if I should choose to boast, I would not be a fool, because I would be speaking the truth. But I refrain, so no one will think more of me than is warranted by what I do or say,or because of these surpassingly great revelations. Therefore, in order to keep me from becoming conceited, I was given a thorn in my flesh, a messenger of Satan, to torment me.Three times I pleaded with the Lord to take it away from me.But he said to me,“ My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ’s power may rest on me. And so it was with me, brothers and sisters. When I came to you, I did not come with eloquence or human wisdom as I proclaimed to you the testimony about God.For I resolved to know nothing while I was with you except Jesus Christ and him crucified.I came to you in weakness with great fear and trembling.My message and my preaching were not with wise and persuasive words, but with a demonstration of the Spirit’s power, (niv)

“ Alas, Sovereign Lord,” I said,“ I do not know how to speak; I am too young.” (niv)

Moses said to the Lord,“ Pardon your servant, Lord. I have never been eloquent, neither in the past nor since you have spoken to your servant. I am slow of speech and tongue.” (niv)

For since in the wisdom of God the world through its wisdom did not know him, God was pleased through the foolishness of what was preached to save those who believe. (niv)

By the humility and gentleness of Christ, I appeal to you— I, Paul, who am“ timid” when face to face with you, but“ bold” toward you when away! (niv)
