假如別人在你們身上享有這權利，何況我們呢？然而，我們並沒有用過這權利，倒是凡事忍受，免得基督的福音受到阻礙。

只有我和巴拿巴沒有權利不做工嗎？

我貶低自己，為了使你們高升，因為我白白地傳神的福音給你們，難道這算是我犯了錯嗎？我剝奪了別的教會，向他們取了報酬來效勞你們。我在你們那裏有缺乏的時候，並沒有連累你們一個人，因為我所缺乏的，那些從馬其頓來的弟兄都補足了。我向來凡事謹慎，將來也必謹慎，總不要連累你們。

如今，我準備第三次到你們那裏去。我仍不會連累你們，因為我所求的是你們，不是你們的財物。兒女不該為父母積財，父母該為兒女積財。

但這權利我全然沒有用過。我寫這些話，並非要你們這樣待我，因為我寧可死也不讓人使我所誇的落了空。我傳福音原沒有可誇耀的，因為我是不得已的，若不傳福音，我就有禍了。我若甘心做這事，就有賞賜；若不甘心，責任卻已經託付給我了。這樣，我的賞賜是甚麼呢？就是我傳福音的時候，使人不花錢得福音，免得我用盡了傳福音的權利。
