我第二次與爾覿面時、已預言之、今與爾相離、復預言之、以書告彼曾犯罪者、及其餘之人云、我若復來、必不寛容、

曩者與爾晤時、予曾告諸犯罪者及其他同人、予若重來、決不有所優容。今方暌隔、亦欲一申舊命、莫謂言之不預也。

I already gave you a warning when I was with you the second time. I now repeat it while absent: On my return I will not spare those who sinned earlier or any of the others,

I already warned you during my second visit. I now say it again while I’m away. When I return, I won’t spare those who sinned earlier. I won’t spare any of the others either.

I warned those who sinned before and all the others, and I warn them now while absent, as I did when present on my second visit, that if I come again I will not spare them—

I have already warned those who had been sinning when I was there on my second visit. Now I again warn them and all others, just as I did before, that next time I will not spare them.

I gave a warning when I was present the second time, and now I give a warning while I am absent to those who sinned before and to all the rest: If I come again, I will not be lenient,

我求上帝為我作證：我沒有去哥林多，是為了寬容你們。

因為主賜給我們權柄是為了造就你們，不是為了毀壞你們，就算我為這權柄稍微誇口，也不會感到羞愧。我不想你們認為我寫信是要威嚇你們。因為有人說：「他信中的話有分量，很嚴厲，他本人卻軟弱無能，言語粗俗。」說這話的人要留心：我們不在你們那裡的時候，在信上怎麼說，與你們見面時也會怎麼做。

你們以為我在你們中間的時候很溫和，不在你們中間的時候卻很嚴厲。如今，我保羅以基督的謙卑和溫柔親自勸你們：我去的時候，請不要逼我這樣嚴厲地對待你們，我的嚴厲是用來對付那些說我憑血氣行事的人。

因為我怕到你們那裡的時候，我對你們的期望會落空，而你們對我也大失所望。我怕你們當中有紛爭、嫉妒、惱怒、仇恨、毀謗、閒話、狂傲和混亂。我怕再去你們那裡時，我的上帝會使我在你們面前感到羞愧，又怕看到許多從前犯罪、道德敗壞、淫亂放蕩的人仍然不肯悔改，便心裡悲傷。

但主若許可，我會很快去你們那裡。那時我要看看這些驕傲的人究竟是只會空談，還是真有上帝的權能。因為上帝的國不在於空談，而在於權能。到底你們要什麼呢？要我帶著刑杖去呢？還是要我帶著溫柔慈愛的心去呢？

我寫這封信是預先警告你們，免得我到你們當中的時候，必須運用基督給我的權柄嚴厲地對待你們。基督賜給我這權柄是為了造就人，不是毀壞人。

你們要把這人交給撒旦去毀壞他的肉體，好使這人的靈魂在主耶穌再來的日子可以得救。
