惟其心頑、迄今讀舊約時、斯帕猶存、夫其帕因基督而廢矣、

以色列人心頑、至於今日、其讀舊約、如帕蒙心、不知此帕、基督去之、

其心愚頑、至於今日、讀舊約時、其帕尚存未除、此帕惟賴基督可除、

然若輩已冥頑成心、而不可感化矣。即在今日、讀舊約時、此帕猶依然未揭；而不知舊約已因基督而廢棄矣。

But their minds were made stubborn. To this day, the same veil remains when the old covenant is read. The veil has not been removed. Only faith in Christ can take it away.

I do not want you to be ignorant of this mystery, brothers and sisters, so that you may not be conceited: Israel has experienced a hardening in part until the full number of the Gentiles has come in,

I keep asking that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the glorious Father, may give you the Spirit of wisdom and revelation, so that you may know him better.I pray that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened in order that you may know the hope to which he has called you, the riches of his glorious inheritance in his holy people,and his incomparably great power for us who believe. That power is the same as the mighty strengthhe exerted when he raised Christ from the dead and seated him at his right hand in the heavenly realms,

For God, who said,“ Let light shine out of darkness,” made his light shine in our hearts to give us the light of the knowledge of God’s glory displayed in the face of Christ.

One of those listening was a woman from the city of Thyatira named Lydia, a dealer in purple cloth. She was a worshiper of God. The Lord opened her heart to respond to Paul’s message.

Jesus said,“ For judgment I have come into this world, so that the blind will see and those who see will become blind.”Some Pharisees who were with him heard him say this and asked,“ What? Are we blind too?”Jesus said,“ If you were blind, you would not be guilty of sin; but now that you claim you can see, your guilt remains.

When Jesus spoke again to the people, he said,“ I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.”

After the reading from the Law and the Prophets, the leaders of the synagogue sent word to them, saying,“ Brothers, if you have a word of exhortation for the people, please speak.”

Jesus replied,“ Blessed are you, Simon son of Jonah, for this was not revealed to you by flesh and blood, but by my Father in heaven.

“ He has blinded their eyes and hardened their hearts, so they can neither see with their eyes, nor understand with their hearts, nor turn— and I would heal them.”

He said to them,“ How foolish you are, and how slow to believe all that the prophets have spoken!Did not the Messiah have to suffer these things and then enter his glory?”And beginning with Moses and all the Prophets, he explained to them what was said in all the Scriptures concerning himself.

He replied,“ Because the knowledge of the secrets of the kingdom of heaven has been given to you, but not to them.

He said to them,“ This is what I told you while I was still with you: Everything must be fulfilled that is written about me in the Law of Moses, the Prophets and the Psalms.”Then he opened their minds so they could understand the Scriptures.He told them,“ This is what is written: The Messiah will suffer and rise from the dead on the third day,

What then? What the people of Israel sought so earnestly they did not obtain. The elect among them did, but the others were hardened,as it is written:“ God gave them a spirit of stupor, eyes that could not see and ears that could not hear, to this very day.”And David says:“ May their table become a snare and a trap, a stumbling block and a retribution for them.May their eyes be darkened so they cannot see, and their backs be bent forever.”

Jesus took the Twelve aside and told them,“ We are going up to Jerusalem, and everything that is written by the prophets about the Son of Man will be fulfilled.He will be delivered over to the Gentiles. They will mock him, insult him and spit on him;they will flog him and kill him. On the third day he will rise again.”The disciples did not understand any of this. Its meaning was hidden from them, and they did not know what he was talking about.

I have come into the world as a light, so that no one who believes in me should stay in darkness.

But if your eyes are unhealthy, your whole body will be full of darkness. If then the light within you is darkness, how great is that darkness!

This is why I speak to them in parables:“ Though seeing, they do not see; though hearing, they do not hear or understand.In them is fulfilled the prophecy of Isaiah:“‘ You will be ever hearing but never understanding; you will be ever seeing but never perceiving.For this people’s heart has become calloused; they hardly hear with their ears, and they have closed their eyes. Otherwise they might see with their eyes, hear with their ears, understand with their hearts and turn, and I would heal them.’

“ Son of man, you are living among a rebellious people. They have eyes to see but do not see and ears to hear but do not hear, for they are a rebellious people.

They know nothing, they understand nothing; their eyes are plastered over so they cannot see, and their minds closed so they cannot understand.

Like the blind we grope along the wall, feeling our way like people without eyes. At midday we stumble as if it were twilight; among the strong, we are like the dead.

Israel’s watchmen are blind, they all lack knowledge; they are all mute dogs, they cannot bark; they lie around and dream, they love to sleep.

Hear this, you foolish and senseless people, who have eyes but do not see, who have ears but do not hear:

But when grace is shown to the wicked, they do not learn righteousness; even in a land of uprightness they go on doing evil and do not regard the majesty of the Lord.Lord, your hand is lifted high, but they do not see it. Let them see your zeal for your people and be put to shame; let the fire reserved for your enemies consume them.Lord, you establish peace for us; all that we have accomplished you have done for us.

“ Hear, you deaf; look, you blind, and see!Who is blind but my servant, and deaf like the messenger I send? Who is blind like the one in covenant with me, blind like the servant of the Lord?You have seen many things, but you pay no attention; your ears are open, but you do not listen.”

On this mountain he will destroy the shroud that enfolds all peoples, the sheet that covers all nations;

May their eyes be darkened so they cannot see, and their backs be bent forever.

“‘ Go to this people and say,“ You will be ever hearing but never understanding; you will be ever seeing but never perceiving.”For this people’s heart has become calloused; they hardly hear with their ears, and they have closed their eyes. Otherwise they might see with their eyes, hear with their ears, understand with their hearts and turn, and I would heal them.’

He has made us competent as ministers of a new covenant— not of the letter but of the Spirit; for the letter kills, but the Spirit gives life.

Make the heart of this people calloused; make their ears dull and close their eyes. Otherwise they might see with their eyes, hear with their ears, understand with their hearts, and turn and be healed.”
