But we have this treasure in jars of clay to show that this all-surpassing power is from God and not from us.

Treasure is kept in clay jars. In the same way, we have the treasure of the good news in these earthly bodies of ours. That shows that the mighty power of the good news comes from God. It doesn’t come from us.

We now have this light shining in our hearts, but we ourselves are like fragile clay jars containing this great treasure. This makes it clear that our great power is from God, not from ourselves.

Now we have this treasure in clay jars, so that this extraordinary power may be from God and not from us.

But we have this treasure in earthen containers, so that the extraordinary greatness of the power will be of God and not from ourselves;

The precious sons of Zion, worth their weight in fine gold, how they are regarded as earthen pots, the work of a potter’s hands!

and what is the immeasurable greatness of his power toward us who believe, according to the working of his great mightthat he worked in Christ when he raised him from the dead and seated him at his right hand in the heavenly places,

And I was with you in weakness and in fear and much trembling,and my speech and my message were not in plausible words of wisdom, but in demonstration of the Spirit and of power,so that your faith might not rest in the wisdom of men but in the power of God.

So to keep me from becoming conceited because of the surpassing greatness of the revelations, a thorn was given me in the flesh, a messenger of Satan to harass me, to keep me from becoming conceited.Three times I pleaded with the Lord about this, that it should leave me.But he said to me,“ My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore I will boast all the more gladly of my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ may rest upon me.

For they say,“ His letters are weighty and strong, but his bodily presence is weak, and his speech of no account.”

“ The kingdom of heaven is like treasure hidden in a field, which a man found and covered up. Then in his joy he goes and sells all that he has and buys that field.

Now in a great house there are not only vessels of gold and silver but also of wood and clay, some for honorable use, some for dishonorable.

To me, though I am the very least of all the saints, this grace was given, to preach to the Gentiles the unsearchable riches of Christ,

The Lord said to Gideon,“ The people with you are too many for me to give the Midianites into their hand, lest Israel boast over me, saying,‘ My own hand has saved me.’

For he was crucified in weakness, but lives by the power of God. For we also are weak in him, but in dealing with you we will live with him by the power of God.

how much more those who dwell in houses of clay, whose foundation is in the dust, who are crushed like the moth.

because our gospel came to you not only in word, but also in power and in the Holy Spirit and with full conviction. You know what kind of men we proved to be among you for your sake.

even when we were dead in our trespasses, made us alive together with Christ— by grace you have been saved—

as sorrowful, yet always rejoicing; as poor, yet making many rich; as having nothing, yet possessing everything.

For I think that God has exhibited us apostles as last of all, like men sentenced to death, because we have become a spectacle to the world, to angels, and to men.We are fools for Christ’s sake, but you are wise in Christ. We are weak, but you are strong. You are held in honor, but we in disrepute.To the present hour we hunger and thirst, we are poorly dressed and buffeted and homeless,and we labor, working with our own hands. When reviled, we bless; when persecuted, we endure;when slandered, we entreat. We have become, and are still, like the scum of the world, the refuse of all things.

And he said to them,“ Therefore every scribe who has been trained for the kingdom of heaven is like a master of a house, who brings out of his treasure what is new and what is old.”

And he divided the 300 men into three companies and put trumpets into the hands of all of them and empty jars, with torches inside the jars.And he said to them,“ Look at me, and do likewise. When I come to the outskirts of the camp, do as I do.When I blow the trumpet, I and all who are with me, then blow the trumpets also on every side of all the camp and shout,‘ For the Lord and for Gideon.’”So Gideon and the hundred men who were with him came to the outskirts of the camp at the beginning of the middle watch, when they had just set the watch. And they blew the trumpets and smashed the jars that were in their hands.Then the three companies blew the trumpets and broke the jars. They held in their left hands the torches, and in their right hands the trumpets to blow. And they cried out,“ A sword for the Lord and for Gideon!”

Remember that you have made me like clay; and will you return me to the dust?
