我派了那几位弟兄前来，为了要使我们在这事上对你们的称赞不至落空，好让你们可以照着我所说的准备妥当，

吾今之所以先派兄弟者、亦欲爾等有備、庶幾吾所誇獎爾等之事、不成子虛烏有；

因此，我们勉励提多，既然开始了这慈善的事，就应当在你们那里把这事办好。

关于捐献给圣徒的事，从前我怎样吩咐加拉太的众教会，你们也要照着去行。每逢七日的第一日，你们各人要按着自己的收入抽一些出来留着，免得我来的时候才现凑。我来到之后，你们选中了什么人，我就派他们带著书信，把你们的捐款送到耶路撒冷去。如果我也应该去，他们就可以和我一同去。

我若对他夸奖过你们什么，也不觉得惭愧。我们对你们所说的是真话，照样，我们在提多面前夸奖你们的也是真的。

提多一方面接受了劝勉，但他自己更加热心，自愿到你们那里去。我们还派了一位弟兄和他同去，（这人在福音的事工上，得到了众教会的称赞。不但这样，众教会更选派了他作我们的旅伴。我们办理这慈善的事，是为了主的荣耀，也是为了我们的心愿。）免得有人因为我们经管的捐款太多，就毁谤我们。因为我们努力去作的，不仅是主认为是美的事，也是众人认为是美的事。我们还派了另一位弟兄与他们同去；我们在许多的事上多次考验过他，知道他很热心；现在他对你们大有信心，就更加热心了。至于提多，他是我的同伴，为你们的缘故作了我的同工；还有我们那两位弟兄，他们是众教会所派的，是基督的荣耀。所以，你们要在众教会面前，向他们证明你们的爱心和我们所夸耀你们的。

你要提醒他们服从执政的和掌权的，听从他们，随时准备作各种善工。

免得一旦马其顿人和我一同来到的时候，见你们还没有准备好，我们就因为这样信任你们而感到羞愧，你们就更不用说了。因此，我认为必须劝那几位弟兄先到你们那里去，使你们事先筹足从前所答应的捐款。那么，你们这样的准备，就是出于乐意的，不是勉强的。
