At this the king sent to Elijah another captain with his fifty men. The captain said to him,“ Man of God, this is what the king says,‘ Come down at once!’”

After that happened, the king sent another captain to Elijah. The captain had his 50 men with him. He said to Elijah,“ Man of God, the king says,‘ Come down at once!’ ”

Again the king sent to him another captain of fifty men with his fifty. And he answered and said to him,“ O man of God, this is the king’s order,‘ Come down quickly!’”

So the king sent another captain with fifty men. The captain said to him,“ Man of God, the king demands that you come down at once.”

So the king sent another captain with his fifty men to Elijah. He took in the situation and announced,“ Man of God, this is what the king says:‘ Come down immediately!’”

So the king again sent to him another captain of fifty with his fifty men. And he said to him,“ You man of God, this is what the king says:‘ Come down quickly!’ ”

Then he sent to him another captain of fifty with his fifty men. And he answered and said to him:“ Man of God, thus has the king said,‘ Come down quickly!’”

And again he sent unto him another captain of fifty with his fifty. And he answered and said unto him, O man of God, thus hath the king said, Come down quickly.

So the king sent another captain of 50 with his 50 men to Elijah. He took in the situation and announced,“ Man of God, this is what the king says:‘ Come down immediately!’”

Again also he sent unto him another captain of fifty with his fifty. And he answered and said unto him, O man of God, thus hath the king said, Come down quickly.

The king sent another captain and his fifty soldiers to retrieve Elijah. He went up and told him,“ Prophet, this is what the king says,‘ Come down at once!’”

Again he sent to him another captain of fifty with his fifty. He answered him,“ Man of God, the king has said,‘ Come down quickly!’”

but keep watching it. If it goes up to its own territory, toward Beth Shemesh, then the Lord has brought this great disaster on us. But if it does not, then we will know that it was not his hand that struck us but that it happened to us by chance.” (niv)

Lord, do not your eyes look for truth? You struck them, but they felt no pain; you crushed them, but they refused correction. They made their faces harder than stone and refused to repent. (niv)

Then the king ordered the guards at his side:“ Turn and kill the priests of the Lord, because they too have sided with David. They knew he was fleeing, yet they did not tell me.” But the king’s officials were unwilling to raise a hand to strike the priests of the Lord.The king then ordered Doeg,“ You turn and strike down the priests.” So Doeg the Edomite turned and struck them down. That day he killed eighty-five men who wore the linen ephod.He also put to the sword Nob, the town of the priests, with its men and women, its children and infants, and its cattle, donkeys and sheep. “ Jesus of Nazareth,” they replied.“ I am he,” Jesus said.( And Judas the traitor was standing there with them.)When Jesus said,“ I am he,” they drew back and fell to the ground.Again he asked them,“ Who is it you want?”“ Jesus of Nazareth,” they said.Jesus answered,“ I told you that I am he. If you are looking for me, then let these men go.”This happened so that the words he had spoken would be fulfilled:“ I have not lost one of those you gave me.”Then Simon Peter, who had a sword, drew it and struck the high priest’s servant, cutting off his right ear.( The servant’s name was Malchus.)Jesus commanded Peter,“ Put your sword away! Shall I not drink the cup the Father has given me?”Then the detachment of soldiers with its commander and the Jewish officials arrested Jesus. They bound him (niv)

The next day the whole Israelite community grumbled against Moses and Aaron.“ You have killed the Lord’s people,” they said. (niv)

“ What are we going to do with these men?” they asked.“ Everyone living in Jerusalem knows they have performed a notable sign, and we cannot deny it.But to stop this thing from spreading any further among the people, we must warn them to speak no longer to anyone in this name.” (niv)

Lord, your hand is lifted high, but they do not see it. Let them see your zeal for your people and be put to shame; let the fire reserved for your enemies consume them. (niv)

The men who were guarding Jesus began mocking and beating him.They blindfolded him and demanded,“ Prophesy! Who hit you?” (niv)

When Herod realized that he had been outwitted by the Magi, he was furious, and he gave orders to kill all the boys in Bethlehem and its vicinity who were two years old and under, in accordance with the time he had learned from the Magi. (niv)
