也要拆毁他們的祭壇，打碎他們的崇拜柱子；他們的亞舍拉神木、你們要用火去燒，他們的神的雕像你們要砍下來，要從那地方除滅他的名。

以利亞對他們說：『將巴力的神言人捉住；一個也不可讓逃脫。』眾人就把他們捉住；以利亞將他們帶下去到基順谿谷中，在那裏把他們宰殺掉。

將巴力廟裏的柱像都拿出來燒；

他把邱壇廢去，把崇拜柱子打碎，將亞舍拉神木砍下來，又將摩西所造的銅蛇砸碎，因為到那時以色列人還向銅蛇燻祭；那銅蛇叫做尼忽士但。

至於那神言人或那作夢的，則必須被處死，因為他說了叛逆的話背叛着永恆主你們的上帝、那領你們出埃及地，贖救你脫離為奴之家的上帝，要勾引你離開永恆主你的上帝所吩咐你走的道路。這樣你就把那壞事從你中間肅清了。

他又打破崇拜柱子，把亞舍拉神木砍下來，使那地方充滿了人的骨頭。

他們上來攻擊猶大，闖進境內，擄掠了王宮所有的財物，以及他的兒女、妻子；除了他的小兒子約哈斯之外、沒有給他剩下一個兒子。

王吩咐大祭司希勒家和副祭司跟把守門檻的、將那為巴力和亞舍拉女神跟天上萬象所造的器皿、都從永恆主殿堂裏搬出來，在耶路撒冷外頭汲淪谿谷的田園裏燒了，把灰燼拿到伯特利去。從前猶大諸王所立拜偶像的祭司、在猶大各城的邱壇和耶路撒冷的四圍燻祭、現在王都罷免他們；也罷免那些向巴力和日月星辰跟天上萬象燻祭的人。他又從永恆主殿裏將亞舍拉神木搬出來到耶路撒冷外頭汲淪谿谷那裏，在汲淪谿谷燒它，打碎成灰，將灰撒在平民的墳墓上。

總要殺他；你先下手，然後眾民也下手、將他處死。

眾人在他面前拆毁了巴力的祭壇，他砍下了壇上高高的香壇，又把亞舍拉神木、雕像和鑄像打碎成灰，撒在對這些偶像獻過祭的人的墳墓上。

他又拆毁了祭壇，把亞舍拉神木和雕像砸碎成灰，將以色列遍地所有的香壇都砍下來，然後回耶路撒冷去。

耶戶對軍官畢甲說：『把他背起來，丟在耶斯列人拿伯的田間；你追想追想；你我一同坐車跟隨他父親亞哈的時候、永恆主怎樣發出這神諭針對着亞哈，說：「永恆主發神諭說：『我一定在這地段報應你，正如我昨日才看見拿伯的血和他兒子們的血一樣；』這是永恆主發神諭說的。」所以現在你要把他背起來，丟在這地段，照永恆主所說的。』猶大王亞哈謝見這光景，就沿伯哈干路向逃跑。耶戶追趕他說：『把這人也擊殺』；就有人把他擊傷在車上，在靠近以伯蓮的姑珥之山坡上。他逃跑到米吉多，就死在那裏。他的臣僕用車將他送到耶路撒冷，把他葬在大衛城、他自己的墳墓裏，和他列祖同在一處。

於是眾民都到巴力廟、將廟拆毁；將他的壇和像打碎；又在祭壇前將巴力的祭司馬坦殺死。耶何耶大就派官來看守永恆主的殿，在祭司利未人手下；這些祭司利未人是大衛所分派來負責永恆主的殿，按摩西律法上所寫的給永恆主獻上燔祭，又照大衛所手定的來歡樂歌唱的。耶何耶大又設立了守門的來把守永恆主之殿的各門；所以無論為了甚麼事而不潔淨的人都不得進去。他又率領了百夫長、貴顯的人、民間的官長、以及國中眾民；他們請王從永恆主的殿下來；他們由上門中進入王宮，就使王坐了國位。

眾偶相必全都過去。

又拿他們所造的牛犢，用火去燒，磨得很細，撒在水面上，叫以色列人喝。

『萬軍之永恆主發神諭說，當那日我必從這地剪除偶像的名字，叫那些名字不再被記念；假神言人和污穢之靈、我也必從這地除去。將來若再有人傳假神言，生他的父親或母親就須要對他說：『你不該活着，因為你冒永恆主的名說假話」；生他的父親或母親在他傳假神言時、必將他刺透。

約西亞又使欣嫩子谷的陀斐特成了凡俗，不許人將兒女用火燒獻給摩洛。
