王吩咐希勒家大祭司和副祭司，以及把守殿門的，把那些為巴力和亞舍拉，以及天上萬象所造的器皿，都從耶和華殿裏搬出來，在耶路撒冷外汲淪的田間燒了，把灰拿到伯特利去。從前猶大列王所立拜偶像的祭司，在猶大城鎮的丘壇和耶路撒冷周圍燒香，現在王都廢去，他們是向巴力和日、月、行星，以及天上萬象燒香的人。他把亞舍拉從耶和華殿裏搬到耶路撒冷外的汲淪溪，在汲淪溪邊焚燒，打碎成灰，把灰撒在平民的墳上。

你務必殺他；你先下手，然後眾百姓才下手，把他處死。

眾人在他面前拆毀諸巴力的壇，砍斷壇上高高的香壇，又把亞舍拉和雕刻的像，以及鑄造的像打碎成灰，撒在向偶像獻祭之人的墳上，

耶戶對他的軍官畢甲說：「把他拋在耶斯列人拿伯的田裏。你當記得，你我一同駕車跟隨他父親亞哈的時候，耶和華對亞哈說了預言，耶和華說：『我昨日看見拿伯的血和他眾子的血，我發誓我必在這塊田上報應你。』這是耶和華說的。現在你要照着耶和華的話，把他拋在這田裏。」猶大王亞哈謝看見了，就沿着伯‧哈干的路逃跑。耶戶追趕他，說：「把這人也擊殺在車上，在靠近以伯蓮的姑珥坡上」。他逃到米吉多，就死在那裏。他的臣僕用車把他的屍體運回耶路撒冷，與他祖先同葬在大衛城，他自己的墳墓裏。

於是眾百姓到巴力廟去，拆毀了廟，打碎祭壇和偶像，又在壇前把巴力的祭司瑪坦殺了。耶何耶大派官員在利未家的祭司手下看守耶和華的殿，他們是大衛所分派的，在耶和華殿中照摩西律法上所寫，獻燔祭給耶和華，又按大衛所定的，歡樂歌唱。耶何耶大又設立守衛把守耶和華殿的各門，無論因何事而不潔淨的人，都不准進去。他又率領百夫長和貴族，與民間的官長，以及國中的眾百姓，請王從耶和華的殿下來，由上門正中進入王宮，使王坐在國度的王位上。

偶像必全然廢棄。

他將他們所鑄的牛犢用火焚燒，磨得粉碎，撒在水面上，叫以色列人喝。

萬軍之耶和華說：「在那日，我要從地上除滅偶像的名，使它不再被記得；我也必使這地不再有先知，不再有污穢的靈。若還有人說預言，生他的父母必對他說：『你不得存活，因為你假借耶和華的名說謊話。』生他的父母在他說預言時，要將他刺死。

他又玷污欣嫩子谷的陀斐特，不許人在那裏使兒女經火獻給摩洛。
