This happened because they had not obeyed the Lord their God, but had violated his covenant— all that Moses the servant of the Lord commanded. They neither listened to the commands nor carried them out.

These things happened because the Israelites hadn’t obeyed the Lord their God. They had broken the covenant he had made with them. They had refused to do everything Moses, the servant of the Lord, had commanded. They hadn’t paid any attention to those commands. They hadn’t obeyed them.

是日我必怒而棄之、掩面不顧、使被吞噬、多遭災禍、時彼必曰、此災臨我、豈非以我上帝不在我中乎、

此因以色列人獲罪於其上帝耶和華、即導之出埃及、脫於埃及王法老手者、彼乃寅畏他神、循耶和華於以色列人前、所逐異族之例、及以色列諸王所立之例、以色列人私行不正之事、背逆其上帝耶和華、於其諸邑、自戍樓至堅城、建築崇邱、在山岡之上、綠樹之下、立柱像與木偶、焚香於諸崇邱、效耶和華於其前所逐之異族、行諸惡事、激耶和華之怒、崇事偶像、即耶和華所言不可為者、耶和華藉諸先知先見、戒以色列與猶大人曰、當轉離爾之惡途、守我誡命典章、循我所命爾列祖、及藉我僕眾先知授爾之法、惟彼弗聽、強項不馴、如其不信厥上帝耶和華之列祖、違棄上帝之典章、及與其列祖所立之約、並戒之之言、從虛無而變為虛妄、效四周異邦、即耶和華所命勿效之者、違棄其上帝耶和華一切誡命、鑄二犢像、製造木偶、崇拜天象、奉事巴力、使其子女經火、用卜筮邪術、自鬻而行耶和華所惡、以激其怒、耶和華震怒以色列人、擯於其前、惟遺猶大支派而已、猶大亦不守其上帝耶和華之誡命、乃從以色列人所立之例、耶和華棄以色列全族、而困苦之、付於虜者之手、擯於其前、奪以色列離大衛家、眾乃立尼八子耶羅波安為王、耶羅波安誘以色列人不從耶和華、使干大罪、以色列人從耶羅波安所犯諸罪、不離棄之、致耶和華擯以色列人於其前、如藉其僕眾先知所言、於是以色列人被虜離故土、徙於亞述、迄於今日、○

蓋時至則鞫自上帝之家始、若自我儕始、彼不服上帝福音者、其終將何如哉、

愚人因其愆尤罪戾、罹於禍患兮、

耶和華滅諸族於爾前、爾曹亦必如是見滅、因不聽爾上帝耶和華命故也、

如爾及子孫、轉而不從我、不守我所示爾之誡命典章、往事他神、而崇拜之、

惟於我僕摩西、則不然、彼盡忠於我家、

於是耶和華之僕摩西卒於摩押、如耶和華所言、

惟彼弗順、叛逆乎爾、背爾法律、爾之先知勸令歸爾、彼乃殺之、大干震怒、故爾付於敵手、而困苦之、窘迫之時、彼呼籲爾、爾則自天垂聽、依爾鴻慈、賜以救者、拯之於敵手、

不肯順從、不念爾於其中所行之奇事、強項悖逆、自立一帥、欲返奴隸之境、惟爾上帝、樂於赦宥、仁慈矜憫、遲於發怒、富有恩惠、不離棄之、

悖逆之以色列、因其宣淫、為我所出、與以離書、其詭譎之妹猶大、仍不畏懼、往而行淫、我見之矣、

夫摩西如僕、忠於上帝家、以證後日將言之事、但基督如子、以治其家、我儕若持守果毅、及所誇之望、鞏固至終、則為其家人矣、

惟命之曰、當聽我言、我則為爾上帝、爾為我民、悉行我所命爾之道、必蒙福祉、

且為躓石、為礙磐、以其背道而蹶焉、此亦預定者也、

列邦人皆問曰、耶和華何為行此於斯土、其怒若是之烈、果何故乎、人將對曰、其祖之上帝耶和華、導之出埃及時、與之立約、而彼背之、奉事崇拜他神、素所未識、耶和華亦未嘗聽其服從者、故耶和華震怒斯土、以書所載之詛加之、耶和華以氣憤、忿怒恚恨、拔之斯土、投於異邦、有如今日、

若弗聽之、轉離我今所諭爾之道、而從素所未識之神、則必受詛、

主之僕不宜爭競、乃以溫和處眾、善施教、忍受侮、

如爾願之而順從、則可食地之美產、
