Manasseh rebuilt the high places. His father Hezekiah had destroyed them. Manasseh also set up altars to the god named Baal. He made a pole used to worship the female god named Asherah. Ahab, the king of Israel, had done those same things. Manasseh even bowed down to all the stars. And he worshiped them.

亚哈犯了尼八的儿子耶罗波安所犯的罪，还以为是小事。他又娶了西顿王谒巴力的女儿耶洗别作妻子，去服事巴力，敬拜巴力。他在撒玛利亚建筑巴力庙，又在庙里为巴力立了一座祭坛。亚哈又做了亚舍拉，亚哈所行的，惹耶和华以色列的神发怒，比他以前所有的以色列王更厉害。

又恐怕你抬头望天，看见日、月、星，就是天上万象的时候，就被勾引，去敬拜和事奉它们，那原是耶和华你们的神分给天下万民享用的。

他重新建造他父亲希西家拆毁的邱坛，又为巴力立坛，制造亚舍拉，并且敬拜和事奉天上的万象。他又在耶和华的殿中筑坛，耶和华曾经指着这殿说：“我的名必永远留在耶路撒冷。”玛拿西在耶和华殿的两院中，为天上的万象筑坛，

我若见太阳（“太阳”直译是“光”）照耀，或明月行在空中，

耶户集合众民，对他们说：“从前亚哈信奉巴力还算是少，耶户要信奉更多。现在，所有的巴力先知、所有信奉他的和他所有的祭司都要给我召来，不要走漏一人；因为我要向巴力献一个极大的祭，缺席的必不得活。”耶户用诡计这样行，是要除灭所有信奉巴力的人。耶户又说：“要为巴力召开一个严肃会。”于是众人宣告召开大会。

王吩咐希勒家大祭司、副祭司和守殿门的，把所有为巴力、亚舍拉和天上的万象所制造的器皿，从耶和华殿里搬出去，在耶路撒冷城外汲沦谷的田野，把它们烧了。然后把它们的灰烬带到伯特利去。他废除了从前犹大列王所立、在犹大各城的邱坛，和耶路撒冷的周围焚香拜偶像的祭司。又废除向巴力、日、月、星辰和天上万象焚香的人。

你跟随了暗利的规例和亚哈家一切所行的，顺从了他们的计谋；因此，我必使你荒凉，使你（“你”原文作“她”）的居民被嗤笑；你们也必担当我民的羞辱。

他们把人给他们的公牛牵了来，预备好了，就从早晨直到中午，呼求巴力的名，说：“巴力啊，应允我们吧！”可是没有声音，也没有回应。他们就在所筑的祭坛周围跳舞。

他照着以色列诸王的道路而行，好像亚哈家所行的；因为他娶了亚哈的女儿为妻，并且行耶和华看为恶的事。

以利亚走近众人说：“你们三心两意，要到几时呢？如果耶和华是神，你们就应当随从耶和华；如果巴力是神，你们就应当随从巴力。”众人一句话也不回答。

他照着亚哈家的道路而行，行耶和华看为恶的事，好像亚哈家一样，因为他是亚哈家的女婿。

他在位第八年，还是年幼的时候，就开始寻求他先祖大卫的神。到了第十二年，他就开始洁净犹大和耶路撒冷，除掉邱坛、亚舍拉、雕像和铸像。

如果你们对我说：我们倚靠的是耶和华我们的神，希西家不是曾把他的邱坛和祭坛废去，又对犹大人和耶路撒冷人说：你们要在耶路撒冷这祭坛前敬拜吗？

这希西家不是曾经把耶和华的邱坛和祭坛除去，吩咐犹大和耶路撒冷的人说：你们要在一个坛前敬拜，要在它上面烧香吗？
