The enemies of Jerusalem and Judah attacked them because the Lord was angry. In the end the Lord threw them out of his land. Zedekiah also refused to remain under the control of Nebuchadnezzar.

For because of the anger of the Lord it came to the point in Jerusalem and Judah that he cast them out from his presence. And Zedekiah rebelled against the king of Babylon.

These things happened because of the Lord’s anger against the people of Jerusalem and Judah, until he finally banished them from his presence and sent them into exile. Zedekiah rebelled against the king of Babylon.

希實本王西宏不容我過其地、因主爾之天主使其心意頑梗剛愎、致付於爾手、有如今日之事、

乃彼背叛巴比倫王、遣使至伊及、欲伊及王賜以馬匹軍旅、彼行是事、豈能亨通、豈能免難、背約之人、豈能得救、主天主曰、我指己永生而誓、巴比倫王既立彼為王、彼乃輕視誓言、背棄盟約、必死於巴比倫王之都巴比倫、敵人既築壘建營、欲翦滅邑眾、欲翦滅邑眾或作欲翦滅人眾多法老雖率軍旅眾多、以助其戰、亦必不利、彼立約立約原文作施手以成約之後、輕誓背約、既行此諸事、必不得免難、主天主曰、我指己永生而誓、彼所輕之誓、即向我而發、所背之約、即與我而立、我必加報其身、身原文作首為之張網、使陷於我之羅、攜至巴比倫、在彼必罰之、必罰之或作必審鞫之因其獲罪於我、獲罪於我或作背叛我

耶利米謂西底家曰、主萬有之主以色列之天主如是云、如爾出邑見見或作降下同巴比倫王之將帥、則爾必得保全生命、此邑不致被火焚燬、爾與爾全家必得生存、如爾不出邑見巴比倫王之將帥、斯邑必付於迦勒底人之手、必焚之以火、爾亦不能脫於其手、西底家王謂耶利米曰、有猶大人已降迦勒底人、我恐迦勒底人付我於彼之手、使彼凌辱我、耶利米曰、必不付爾、凡主之言、我所述於爾者、爾其聽從、則獲大益、得保全生命、如爾不願出、主示我之言乃此、

因猶大人違棄我、焚香於他神、他神或作異邦之神以其所為、干犯我怒、故我向此處震怒、如烈火不熄、

瑣安之候伯、盡為愚蒙、法老謀士之智者、其謀忽成拙計、焉能告法老曰、我乃先賢之後、古王之裔哉、爾之智慧者安在、萬有之主為伊及所定之謀、謀或作命下同彼當知之、當告爾、瑣安之侯伯愚蒙、挪弗之侯伯迷惑、伊及諸支派之領袖、謬引伊及人、主使伊及侯伯、心皆昏昧、以致使伊及人諸事差謬、若醉者哇吐時、跬步不穩、

故主震怒斯地、以此書所載之諸禍禍或作詛降之、

不然、我必降諸災於爾、原文作我必降諸災於爾心以及爾臣民、使爾知我於普天之下無如我者、或作我於普天之下無可比擬者我若舉手以疫癘懲爾及爾民、則爾早滅於世、然我使爾立、欲顯我之大能以示爾、使我名傳於天下、或作但因我欲顯我之大能以示爾使我名傳於天下故至今我使爾立爾仍強拘我民、不釋之去、

智者安在、經士安在、斯世之辯士安在、天主豈非使斯世之智為愚乎、
