說：『我們不留在這地，卻要進入埃及地，在那裏我們看不見戰爭，聽不見角聲，也不致缺食挨餓；我們要住在那裏。』倖存的猶大人哪，你們現在要聽耶和華的話；萬軍之耶和華－以色列的神如此說：『你們若定意進入埃及，在那裏寄居，你們所懼怕的刀劍在埃及地必追上你們，你們所懼怕的饑荒在埃及要緊緊跟隨你們，你們必死在那裏。凡定意進入埃及在那裏寄居的，必遭刀劍、饑荒、瘟疫而死，無一人存留，得以逃脫我所降與他們的災禍。』「萬軍之耶和華－以色列的神如此說：『我怎樣將我的怒氣和憤怒傾倒在耶路撒冷的居民身上，你們進入埃及的時候，我也必照樣將我的憤怒傾倒在你們身上，以致你們受辱罵、驚駭、詛咒、羞辱，並且不得再看見這地方。』倖存的猶大人哪，耶和華論到你們說：『不要進入埃及。』你們要確實知道，我今日已警戒你們了。你們行詭詐害自己；因為你們請我到耶和華－你們神那裏，說：『請你為我們向耶和華－我們的神禱告，你把耶和華－我們神所說的一切告訴我們，我們就必遵行。』我今日把這話告訴你們，你們卻不聽耶和華－你們神為這一切事差我到你們那裏所說的話。現在你們要確實知道，你們在所要去的寄居之地必遭刀劍、饑荒、瘟疫而死。」

尼探雅的兒子以實瑪利殺了亞希甘的兒子基大利，從米斯巴把所有倖存的百姓、士兵、婦女、孩童、太監擄到基遍之後，加利亞的兒子約哈難和與他一起的軍官把他們都搶回來，帶到靠近伯利恆的基羅特金罕住下，要到埃及去，躲避迦勒底人。他們懼怕迦勒底人，因為尼探雅的兒子以實瑪利殺了巴比倫王所立管理那地的亞希甘的兒子基大利。
