以色列人在当毁灭之物的事上犯了罪。因为犹大支派中谢拉的曾孙、撒底的孙子、迦米的儿子亚干拿了一些本该毁灭的东西，耶和华便向以色列人发怒。

以色列人犯了罪，违背了我吩咐他们应守的约，偷拿了本该毁灭的东西放在自己的行囊里，还撒谎。所以，以色列人受咒诅，无法抵挡敌人，掉头败逃。你必须将那些本该毁灭的东西从你们中间除掉，不然我就不再与你们同在。

亚哈听说拿伯死了，就起来，下去霸占拿伯的葡萄园。

他说：“这是临到全天下的咒诅，因为书卷一面写着‘凡偷盗的必被清除’，另一面写着‘凡起假誓的必被清除’。”万军之耶和华说：“我要使这咒诅进入盗贼和奉我的名起假誓者的家，住在他们家里，毁灭他们的家，不留一木一石。”

“但那些被掳的人必用诗歌和俗语嘲讽他们，说，‘你们有祸了！你们吞没别人的财产，靠剥削别人囤积财富，要到何时呢？’

那些向耶和华深藏计谋的人有祸了！他们暗中行事，自以为无人看见也无人知道。
