原来，主使亚兰人听见大队人马和战车的声音。他们以为以色列王雇用了赫人的诸王和埃及人的诸王来攻营，

因为主使亚兰人的军队听见车马的声音，是大军的声音；他们就彼此说：“这必是以色列王贿买赫人的诸王和埃及人的诸王来攻击我们。”

for the Lord had caused the Arameans to hear the sound of chariots and horses and a great army, so that they said to one another,“ Look, the king of Israel has hired the Hittite and Egyptian kings to attack us!”

The Lord had caused the soldiers of Aram to hear a noise. It sounded like chariots and horses and a huge army. So the soldiers said to one another,“ Listen! The king of Israel has hired the Hittite and Egyptian kings. He has paid them to attack us!”

那些到埃及寻求帮助的人有祸了！他们仰赖战马，倚靠众多的战车和强壮的骑兵，却不仰望以色列的圣者，不寻求耶和华。

但他们终必充满恐惧，因为上帝站在义人当中。

你们即使依靠埃及的战车和骑兵，又怎能打败我主人的一个最小的将领呢？

罗波安王执政第五年，埃及王示撒上来攻打耶路撒冷，因为犹大君民对耶和华不忠。示撒率领一千二百辆战车、六万骑兵及无数的路比人、苏基人和古实人。

第二天早晨，日光照在水面上，摩押人起来后，看见对面的水像血一样红，便说：“那是血啊！一定是三王内讧，自相残杀。弟兄们，我们去抢财物吧！”他们到了以色列营，以色列人奋起迎战，杀得他们转身逃跑。以色列人乘胜追击，杀入摩押境内，击杀摩押人，摧毁城邑，人人抛掷石头填满所有良田，堵塞一切水泉，砍倒各种佳美树木。摩押境内仅剩的吉珥·哈列设城也遭到甩石的士兵围攻。摩押王见战事不利，就率领七百名刀兵，企图从以东王那边突围，但没有成功。于是，他在城上将本应继承自己王位的长子杀掉，献为燔祭。以色列人感到非常恐惧，便退兵回国了。

地上的君王、显贵、将领、富豪、有势力的、一切奴隶和自由人都躲藏在山洞里和岩穴间。他们哀求群山和岩石，说：“倒下来遮盖我们，将我们藏起来吧！我们不敢面对宝座上的那位和羔羊的烈怒啊！
