惡人雖然沒有人追趕，仍然逃跑；義人卻像獅子，放膽無懼。

就要選擇幾座城，給你們作避難城，讓誤殺人的，就是無心殺死人的，可以逃到那裡。它們可以作你們逃避報仇者的避難城，使誤殺人的不至於死，直到他站在會眾面前受審判。

有人靠車，有人靠馬。我們卻靠耶和華我們神的名。他們都屈身跌倒，我們卻起來，挺身而立。

君王的心在耶和華手中，好像水溝的水，他可以隨意轉移。

“帶領大軍的君王都逃跑了，逃跑了；住在家中的婦女分得了戰利品。

行毀滅的必來攻擊一切城鎮，沒有一座城可以倖免；山谷必被蹂躪，平原必受破壞，正如耶和華所說的。你們要在摩押上面撒鹽，因為它必成為廢墟（“你們要在摩押上面撒鹽，因為它必成為廢墟”或譯：“你們要把翅膀給摩押，因為它必飛去”）；它的城鎮必成為荒涼，沒有人在裡面居住。

到那日，人必把那些自己所做、供自己敬拜的金偶像和銀偶像，拋給田鼠和蝙蝠。

要解救自己，像羚羊脫離獵人的手，像飛鳥脫離捕鳥人的手。

想靠馬得勝是枉然的；馬雖然力大，也不能救人。

驚駭四面恐嚇他，並且追趕他的腳蹤。

行動迅速的不能逃走，強而有力的不能施展他的勇力，勇士也不能救自己；拿弓的人站立不住，跑得快的不能逃走，騎馬的也不能救自己。到那日，最勇敢的戰士，也是赤身逃跑。’這是耶和華的宣告。”

這兩件事是不能更改的，因為神是決不說謊的。因此，我們這些逃進避難所的人，就大得安慰，抓緊那擺在我們面前的盼望。

那時，住在猶太的應當逃到山上；在房頂的不要下來拿家裡的東西；在田裡的也不要回去取衣服。
