他又在猶大山嶺建造丘壇，使耶路撒冷的居民行淫，誘惑猶大。以利亞先知寫信給約蘭說：「耶和華－你祖先大衛的上帝如此說：『因為你不行你父約沙法和猶大王亞撒的道，反而行以色列諸王的道，使猶大和耶路撒冷居民行淫，像亞哈家行淫一樣，又殺了你父家比你好的那些兄弟。看哪，耶和華必降大災於你的百姓和你的妻妾、兒女，以及你一切所有的。至於你，你必患許多的病，你的腸子也必生病，日漸沉重，直到腸子墜落下來。』」耶和華激發非利士人和靠近古實人的阿拉伯人的心來攻擊約蘭。他們上來攻擊猶大，侵入境內，擄掠了王宮裏所有的財物和他的妻妾、兒女，除了他的小兒子約哈斯之外，沒有留下一個兒子。這一切事以後，耶和華擊打約蘭，使他的腸子患不能醫治的病。這病纏綿日久，過了二年，腸子墜落下來，他就病重而死。他的百姓沒有為他生火誌哀，像從前為他祖先生火一樣。約蘭登基的時候年三十二歲，在耶路撒冷作王八年。他逝世無人思慕，眾人把他葬在大衛城，只是不在列王的墳墓裏。
