Now the watchman was standing on the tower in Jezreel, and he saw the company of Jehu as he came and said,“ I see a company.” And Joram said,“ Take a horseman and send to meet them, and let him say,‘ Is it peace?’”

The watchman on the tower of Jezreel saw Jehu and his company approaching, so he shouted to Joram,“ I see a company of troops coming!”“ Send out a rider to ask if they are coming in peace,” King Joram ordered.

Now the watchman was standing on the tower in Jezreel. He saw Jehu’s mob approaching and shouted,“ I see a mob!” Joram responded,“ Choose a rider and send him to meet them and have him ask,‘ Do you come in peace?’”

Now the watchman was standing on the tower in Jezreel and he saw the company of Jehu as he came, and he said,“ I see a company.” And Joram said,“ Take a horseman and send him to meet them and have him ask,‘ Is your intention peace?’ ”

Samuel did what the Lord said. When he arrived at Bethlehem, the elders of the town trembled when they met him. They asked,“ Do you come in peace?” (niv)

“ As you know,” he said,“ the kingdom was mine. All Israel looked to me as their king. But things changed, and the kingdom has gone to my brother; for it has come to him from the Lord. (niv)

This is what the Lord says to me:“ Go, post a lookout and have him report what he sees.When he sees chariots with teams of horses, riders on donkeys or riders on camels, let him be alert, fully alert.”And the lookout shouted,“ Day after day, my lord, I stand on the watchtower; every night I stay at my post.Look, here comes a man in a chariot with a team of horses. And he gives back the answer:‘ Babylon has fallen, has fallen! All the images of its gods lie shattered on the ground!’” (niv)

“ When you enter a house, first say,‘ Peace to this house.’If someone who promotes peace is there, your peace will rest on them; if not, it will return to you. (niv)

“ Son of man, speak to your people and say to them:‘ When I bring the sword against a land, and the people of the land choose one of their men and make him their watchman,and he sees the sword coming against the land and blows the trumpet to warn the people,then if anyone hears the trumpet but does not heed the warning and the sword comes and takes their life, their blood will be on their own head.Since they heard the sound of the trumpet but did not heed the warning, their blood will be on their own head. If they had heeded the warning, they would have saved themselves.But if the watchman sees the sword coming and does not blow the trumpet to warn the people and the sword comes and takes someone’s life, that person’s life will be taken because of their sin, but I will hold the watchman accountable for their blood.’“ Son of man, I have made you a watchman for the people of Israel; so hear the word I speak and give them warning from me.When I say to the wicked,‘ You wicked person, you will surely die,’ and you do not speak out to dissuade them from their ways, that wicked person will die for their sin, and I will hold you accountable for their blood.But if you do warn the wicked person to turn from their ways and they do not do so, they will die for their sin, though you yourself will be saved. (niv)

So the king sent out a second horseman. When he came to them he said,“ This is what the king says:‘ Do you come in peace?’” Jehu replied,“ What do you have to do with peace? Fall in behind me.” (niv)

I have posted watchmen on your walls, Jerusalem; they will never be silent day or night. You who call on the Lord, give yourselves no rest, (niv)

Therefore, I declare to you today that I am innocent of the blood of any of you.For I have not hesitated to proclaim to you the whole will of God.Keep watch over yourselves and all the flock of which the Holy Spirit has made you overseers. Be shepherds of the church of God, which he bought with his own blood.I know that after I leave, savage wolves will come in among you and will not spare the flock.Even from your own number men will arise and distort the truth in order to draw away disciples after them.So be on your guard! Remember that for three years I never stopped warning each of you night and day with tears. (niv)

A prophecy against Dumah: Someone calls to me from Seir,“ Watchman, what is left of the night? Watchman, what is left of the night?”The watchman replies,“ Morning is coming, but also the night. If you would ask, then ask; and come back yet again.” (niv)
