Lord, they went to You in their distress; they poured out whispered prayers because Your discipline fell on them.

I mourned and fasted, but it brought me insults.

Who knows? God may turn and relent; He may turn from His burning anger so that we will not perish.

Though evil tastes sweet in his mouth and he conceals it under his tongue,though he cherishes it and will not let it go but keeps it in his mouth,yet the food in his stomach turns into cobras’ venom inside him.

Even now— this is the Lord’s declaration— turn to Me with all your heart, with fasting, weeping, and mourning.Tear your hearts, not just your clothes, and return to the Lord your God. For He is gracious and compassionate, slow to anger, rich in faithful love, and He relents from sending disaster.Who knows? He may turn and relent and leave a blessing behind Him, so you can offer grain and wine to the Lord your God.
