As King David approached Bahurim, a man from the same clan as Saul’s family came out from there. His name was Shimei son of Gera, and he cursed as he came out.

King David approached Bahurim. As he did, a man came out toward him. The man was from the same family group that Saul was from. His name was Shimei. He was the son of Gera. As he came out of the town, he cursed David.

When King David came to Bahurim, there came out a man of the family of the house of Saul, whose name was Shimei, the son of Gera, and as he came he cursed continually.

As King David came to Bahurim, a man came out of the village cursing them. It was Shimei son of Gera, from the same clan as Saul’s family.

When King David got to Bahurim, a man belonging to the family of the house of Saul was just coming out. His name was Shimei son of Gera, and he was yelling curses as he approached.

When King David came to Bahurim, behold, a man was coming out from there from the family of the house of Saul, and his name was Shimei, the son of Gera; he was coming out, cursing as he came.

Now when King David came to Bahurim, there was a man from the family of the house of Saul, whose name was Shimei the son of Gera, coming from there. He came out, cursing continuously as he came.

And when king David came to Bahurim, behold, thence came out a man of the family of the house of Saul, whose name[ was] Shimei, the son of Gera: he came forth, and cursed still as he came.

Then King David reached Bahurim. There a man from Saul’s extended family named Shimei son of Gera came out, yelling curses as he approached.

Her husband, however, went with her, weeping behind her all the way to Bahurim. Then Abner said to him,“ Go back home!” So he went back.

“ And remember, you have with you Shimei son of Gera, the Benjamite from Bahurim, who called down bitter curses on me the day I went to Mahanaim. When he came down to meet me at the Jordan, I swore to him by the Lord:‘ I will not put you to death by the sword.’But now, do not consider him innocent. You are a man of wisdom; you will know what to do to him. Bring his gray head down to the grave in blood.”

“ Do not blaspheme God or curse the ruler of your people.

But a young man saw them and told Absalom. So the two of them left at once and went to the house of a man in Bahurim. He had a well in his courtyard, and they climbed down into it.

Then the king sent for Shimei and said to him,“ Build yourself a house in Jerusalem and live there, but do not go anywhere else.The day you leave and cross the Kidron Valley, you can be sure you will die; your blood will be on your own head.”Shimei answered the king,“ What you say is good. Your servant will do as my lord the king has said.” And Shimei stayed in Jerusalem for a long time.But three years later, two of Shimei’s slaves ran off to Achish son of Maakah, king of Gath, and Shimei was told,“ Your slaves are in Gath.”At this, he saddled his donkey and went to Achish at Gath in search of his slaves. So Shimei went away and brought the slaves back from Gath.When Solomon was told that Shimei had gone from Jerusalem to Gath and had returned,the king summoned Shimei and said to him,“ Did I not make you swear by the Lord and warn you,‘ On the day you leave to go anywhere else, you can be sure you will die’? At that time you said to me,‘ What you say is good. I will obey.’Why then did you not keep your oath to the Lord and obey the command I gave you?”The king also said to Shimei,“ You know in your heart all the wrong you did to my father David. Now the Lord will repay you for your wrongdoing.But King Solomon will be blessed, and David’s throne will remain secure before the Lord forever.”Then the king gave the order to Benaiah son of Jehoiada, and he went out and struck Shimei down and he died. The kingdom was now established in Solomon’s hands.

He said to David,“ Am I a dog, that you come at me with sticks?” And the Philistine cursed David by his gods.

Shimei son of Gera, the Benjamite from Bahurim, hurried down with the men of Judah to meet King David.With him were a thousand Benjamites, along with Ziba, the steward of Saul’s household, and his fifteen sons and twenty servants. They rushed to the Jordan, where the king was.They crossed at the ford to take the king’s household over and to do whatever he wished. When Shimei son of Gera crossed the Jordan, he fell prostrate before the kingand said to him,“ May my lord not hold me guilty. Do not remember how your servant did wrong on the day my lord the king left Jerusalem. May the king put it out of his mind.For I your servant know that I have sinned, but today I have come here as the first from the tribes of Joseph to come down and meet my lord the king.”Then Abishai son of Zeruiah said,“ Shouldn’t Shimei be put to death for this? He cursed the Lord’s anointed.”David replied,“ What does this have to do with you, you sons of Zeruiah? What right do you have to interfere? Should anyone be put to death in Israel today? Don’t I know that today I am king over Israel?”So the king said to Shimei,“ You shall not die.” And the king promised him on oath.

Distressed and hungry, they will roam through the land; when they are famished, they will become enraged and, looking upward, will curse their king and their God.

While they curse, may you bless; may those who attack me be put to shame, but may your servant rejoice.

The king and all the people with him arrived at their destination exhausted. And there he refreshed himself.

Do not revile the king even in your thoughts, or curse the rich in your bedroom, because a bird in the sky may carry your words, and a bird on the wing may report what you say.

Like a fluttering sparrow or a darting swallow, an undeserved curse does not come to rest.

For he never thought of doing a kindness, but hounded to death the poor and the needy and the brokenhearted.He loved to pronounce a curse— may it come back on him. He found no pleasure in blessing— may it be far from him.He wore cursing as his garment; it entered into his body like water, into his bones like oil.May it be like a cloak wrapped about him, like a belt tied forever around him.

For they persecute those you wound and talk about the pain of those you hurt.

“ Blessed are you when people insult you, persecute you and falsely say all kinds of evil against you because of me.Rejoice and be glad, because great is your reward in heaven, for in the same way they persecuted the prophets who were before you.
