「別放過巴戶琳的便雅憫人基拉的兒子示每。我逃亡到瑪哈念的時候，他曾用惡毒的話咒罵我。後來他到約旦河迎接我的時候，我曾憑耶和華起誓不殺他。

大衛王來到巴戶琳時，掃羅家族基拉的兒子示每出來對著大衛破口大罵，還朝大衛和他的臣僕扔石頭，無視大衛身邊的眾多部下和勇士。示每罵大衛：「滾吧！滾吧！你這個殺人兇手，你這個敗類！你殺掃羅的家人，奪其王位，耶和華報應了你，把江山交給了你兒子押沙龍。你這殺人兇手是自食惡果！」洗魯雅的兒子亞比篩對王說：「這死狗竟敢辱罵我主我王，讓我過去砍掉他的頭！」王卻說：「洗魯雅的兒子啊，不要管我的事。如果是耶和華叫他來咒罵我，誰能干涉他呢？」大衛對亞比篩和他所有臣僕說：「我的親生兒子尚且要取我的命，何況這個便雅憫人呢？由他去吧！因為這是耶和華的意思。也許耶和華會體察我的困苦，因我今天所受的咒罵而賜福給我。」於是，大衛和隨從繼續趕路，示每也沿著對面的山坡邊走邊罵，向他們扔石頭，撒灰塵。

「趁著你和告你的人還在去法庭的路上，你要趕緊與對方和解。不然，他會把你交給審判官，審判官會把你交給差役關進監牢。

王又派人將示每召來，對他說：「你要在耶路撒冷建屋居住，不得出城去其他地方。你哪天越過汲淪溪，哪天必死無疑，你的死是咎由自取。」示每說：「好，僕人必照我主我王說的做。」示每就一直住在耶路撒冷。過了三年，示每的兩個僕人逃到迦特王瑪迦的兒子亞吉那裡。示每知道後，就備上驢到迦特的亞吉那裡找他的僕人，並把他們帶了回來。所羅門聽說示每從耶路撒冷前往迦特，已經返回，就派人召來示每，問道：「我不是叫你憑耶和華起誓不離開耶路撒冷嗎？我警告過你，你哪天離開這裡，哪天必死無疑。當時你也同意。現在你為何不守你向耶和華起的誓，不遵行我的命令？」王又說：「你以前如何惡待我父大衛，你自己心裡明白，現在耶和華要追究你的罪行了。但所羅門王必蒙祝福，大衛的王位在耶和華面前必永遠穩固。」於是，王命令耶何耶大的兒子比拿雅殺死示每。這樣所羅門的江山得以穩固。

勿讓你的眼睛睡覺，莫叫你的眼皮打盹。要救自己脫離困境，像羚羊掙脫獵人的手，飛鳥逃脫捕鳥人的手。
