Then Abishai, the son of Zeruiah, said,“ Shouldn’t Shimei be put to death for what he did? He cursed you. And you are the Lord’ s anointed king.”

But Abishai the son of Zeruiah responded,“ Should Shimei not be put to death for this, the fact that he cursed the Lord’s anointed?”

But Abishai the son of Zeruiah answered and said,“ Shall not Shimei be put to death for this, because he cursed the LORD’s anointed?”

Abishai son of Zeruiah asked,“ Shouldn’t Shimei be put to death for this, because he cursed the Lord’s anointed?”

Abishai son of Zeruiah replied,“ For this should not Shimei be put to death? After all, he cursed the LORD’s anointed!”

“ Do not speak evil things against God. Do not curse the ruler of your people.

But David said to Abishai,“ Don’t destroy him! No one can do any harm to the Lord’ s anointed king and not be guilty.

King David approached Bahurim. As he did, a man came out toward him. The man was from the same family group that Saul was from. His name was Shimei. He was the son of Gera. As he came out of the town, he cursed David.

But put two worthless and evil men in seats across from him. Have them bring charges that he has cursed God and the king. Then take him out of the city. He said to his men,“ May the Lord keep me from doing a thing like that again to my master. He is the Lord’ s anointed king. So I promise that I will never lay my hand on him. The Lord has anointed him.”

So David and his men kept going along the road. At the same time, Shimei was going along the hillside across from him. He was cursing David as he went. He was throwing stones at David. He was showering him with dirt.

As Shimei cursed, he said,“ Get out! Get out, you murderer! You are a worthless and evil man!You spilled the blood of a lot of people in Saul’s family. You took over his kingdom. Now the Lord is paying you back. He has handed the kingdom over to your son Absalom. You have been destroyed because you are a murderer!”
