So the king got up and took his seat in the gateway. When the men were told,“ The king is sitting in the gateway,” they all came before him. Meanwhile, the Israelites had fled to their homes.

So the king went out and took his seat at the town gate, and as the news spread throughout the town that he was there, everyone went to him. Meanwhile, the Israelites who had supported Absalom fled to their homes.

那时，大卫正坐在内外城门中间的地方。守望的人上到城楼的平顶上，举目观看，见有一个人独自跑来。

王对他们说：“你们看怎么好，我就怎样作吧！”于是王站在城门旁边，众人组成百人一队或千人一队出发了。

那一天，众人偷偷进城，就像军人从战场上逃跑，羞愧地偷偷回来一样。

犹大人被以色列人击败，各人逃回自己的家去了。

众人出到田野迎战以色列人；战争发生在以法莲的树林里。在那里，以色列人在大卫的臣仆面前被打败了；那天被杀的人很多，共有二万人。战事在那里蔓延到全地；那一天，树林所吞灭的比刀剑所吞灭的更多。

约在日落的时候，有命令传遍军中说：“各归各城，各归各地吧。”

押沙龙常常清早起来，站在通往城门口的路旁。有争讼的案件要进去请王判决的人，押沙龙就把他叫到跟前来，问他：“你是从哪一座城来的？”他回答：“仆人是从以色列某一支派来的。”

他们把押沙龙的尸体抬起来，丢在树林中的一个大坑里，又在上面堆起一大堆石头。以色列众人都逃跑，各回自己的家去了。
