他在希伯仑统治犹大七年半，在耶路撒冷统治以色列和犹大三十三年。

以色列的长老都到希伯仑见大卫王，大卫与他们在耶和华面前立约，他们膏立大卫做以色列的王。

撒母耳就拿出盛膏油的角，当着他哥哥们的面膏立他。从那天起，耶和华的灵降在大卫身上。事后，撒母耳回拉玛去了。

现在你们的主扫罗已经死了，犹大支派已经膏立我做他们的王，你们要刚强勇敢。”

非利士人听说大卫已被膏立为以色列王，就全军出动，要搜寻大卫。大卫得到消息便退到坚城里。

犹大人答道：“我们这样做是因为王是我们的亲族。你们为什么生气呢？难道我们吃了王的供应，得了什么礼物吗？”

大卫在希伯仑做王统治犹大支派七年半。

以色列的长老都到希伯仑见大卫王，大卫与他们在耶和华面前立约，他们膏立大卫做以色列的王，这应验了耶和华借撒母耳所说的话。

“犹大啊，你的兄弟们必赞美你，你必制服你的仇敌，你父亲的儿子必向你下拜。我儿犹大是头小狮子，他猎食回来，躺卧如雄狮，蹲伏如母狮，谁敢惊扰他？王权必不离犹大，御杖必伴他左右，直到那位执掌王权的来到，万民都必归顺他。

大卫王派人去对祭司撒督和亚比亚他说：“你们去问犹大的长老，‘全以色列已经准备迎接王回宫，你们为什么迟迟没有反应？
