Then the men of Judah came to Hebron, and there they anointed David king over the tribe of Judah. When David was told that it was the men from Jabesh Gilead who had buried Saul,

基列之雅疋民、聞非利士人待掃羅若此、壯士盡起、夤夜以行、奪掃羅及其子之尸、自伯山城垣、至雅疋焚之。取其骨、葬於雅疋樹下、然後禁食、歷至七日。

在希伯崙轄猶大族、歷七年有半、在耶路撒冷、兼轄以色列猶大二族、歷三十三年。

以色列族長老、既至希伯崙覲王、大闢與之立約、在耶和華前、長老以膏沐大闢、立為以色列王。

撒母耳取角中之膏以沐之、兄弟咸睹、自是以後、耶和華之神感大闢、撒母耳啟行、歸於拉馬。○

爾主掃羅既沒、猶大族沐我以膏、立我為王、當強爾志、無忝英武。

非利士人聞大闢為膏、為以色列王、則前來攻擊、大闢知之、據其險要。

猶大人語以色列族曰、王與我誼屬同宗、何因此而怒、我豈食王祿、受王餽者乎。

大闢在希伯崙為王、治理猶大族、歷七年有半。○

以色列族長老、既至希伯崙、覲王大闢、於耶和華前、與之立約、長老以膏沐大闢、立為以色列族王、循耶和華命撒母耳之言。

猶大與、兄弟必頌美爾、爾父之子、伏拜爾前、爾必扼敵之吭。猶大若稚獅、見物則斷傷之、悠然而去、吾子如牡獅、伏視眈眈、亦猶牝獅、孰敢攖之。猶大族中、代有秉鈞執政之人、待賜安者至、民咸歸之。

大闢王遣人至祭司撒督亞庇亞塔、曰、當告猶大長老、曰、以色列族所言、傳聞於王宮、爾導王歸、何居人後乎。
