Then he shouted,“ We don’t have any share in David’s kingdom! Jesse’s son is not our king! Men of Israel, every one of you go back home!”

Now there happened to be there a worthless man, whose name was Sheba, the son of Bichri, a Benjaminite. And he blew the trumpet and said,“ We have no portion in David, and we have no inheritance in the son of Jesse; every man to his tents, O Israel!”

There happened to be a troublemaker there named Sheba son of Bicri, a man from the tribe of Benjamin. Sheba blew a ram’s horn and began to chant:“ Down with the dynasty of David! We have no interest in the son of Jesse. Come on, you men of Israel, back to your homes!”

Now a wicked man, a Benjaminite named Sheba son of Bichri, happened to be there. He blew the ram’s horn and shouted: We have no portion in David, no inheritance in Jesse’s son. Each man to his tent, Israel!

Now when all Israel saw that the king did not listen to them, the people answered the king, saying:“ What share have we in David? We have no inheritance in the son of Jesse. To your tents, O Israel! Now, see to your own house, O David!” So Israel departed to their tents.

‘ Corrupt men have gone out from among you and enticed the inhabitants of their city, saying,“ Let us go and serve other gods”’— which you have not known—

Now when all Israel saw that the king did not listen to them, the people answered the king, saying:“ What share have we in David? We have no inheritance in the son of Jesse. Every man to your tents, O Israel! Now see to your own house, O David!” So all Israel departed to their tents.

Then King Rehoboam consulted the elders who stood before his father Solomon while he still lived, saying,“ How do you advise me to answer these people?”

Arise, O Lord, Confront him, cast him down; Deliver my life from the wicked with Your sword,

Just then all the men of Israel came to the king, and said to the king,“ Why have our brethren, the men of Judah, stolen you away and brought the king, his household, and all David’s men with him across the Jordan?”So all the men of Judah answered the men of Israel,“ Because the king is a close relative of ours. Why then are you angry over this matter? Have we ever eaten at the king’s expense? Or has he given us any gift?”And the men of Israel answered the men of Judah, and said,“ We have ten shares in the king; therefore we also have more right to David than you. Why then do you despise us— were we not the first to advise bringing back our king?” Yet the words of the men of Judah were fiercer than the words of the men of Israel.

then Saul said to his servants who stood about him,“ Hear now, you Benjamites! As charcoal is to burning coals, and wood to fire, So is a contentious man to kindle strife.

Do not go hastily to court; For what will you do in the end, When your neighbor has put you to shame?

But the sons of rebellion shall all be as thorns thrust away, Because they cannot be taken with hands.

Are You not from everlasting, O Lord my God, my Holy One? We shall not die. O Lord, You have appointed them for judgment; O Rock, You have marked them for correction.You are of purer eyes than to behold evil, And cannot look on wickedness. Why do You look on those who deal treacherously, And hold Your tongue when the wicked devours A person more righteous than he?

My son, fear the Lord and the king; Do not associate with those given to change;For their calamity will rise suddenly, And who knows the ruin those two can bring?

Many are the afflictions of the righteous, But the Lord delivers him out of them all.

As they were enjoying themselves, suddenly certain men of the city, perverted men, surrounded the house and beat on the door. They spoke to the master of the house, the old man, saying,“ Bring out the man who came to your house, that we may know him carnally!”

Now the sons of Eli were corrupt; they did not know the Lord.

Then Absalom sent spies throughout all the tribes of Israel, saying,“ As soon as you hear the sound of the trumpet, then you shall say,‘ Absalom reigns in Hebron!’”

And it happened, when he arrived, that he blew the trumpet in the mountains of Ephraim, and the children of Israel went down with him from the mountains; and he led them.

But his citizens hated him, and sent a delegation after him, saying,‘ We will not have this man to reign over us.’

Then all the wicked and worthless men of those who went with David answered and said,“ Because they did not go with us, we will not give them any of the spoil that we have recovered, except for every man’s wife and children, that they may lead them away and depart.”
