Then he shouted,“ We don’t have any share in David’s kingdom! Jesse’s son is not our king! Men of Israel, every one of you go back home!”

Now there happened to be there a worthless man, whose name was Sheba, the son of Bichri, a Benjaminite. And he blew the trumpet and said,“ We have no portion in David, and we have no inheritance in the son of Jesse; every man to his tents, O Israel!”

There happened to be a troublemaker there named Sheba son of Bicri, a man from the tribe of Benjamin. Sheba blew a ram’s horn and began to chant:“ Down with the dynasty of David! We have no interest in the son of Jesse. Come on, you men of Israel, back to your homes!”

Why then do you treat us with contempt? Weren’t we the first to speak of bringing back our king?” But the men of Judah pressed their claims even more forcefully than the men of Israel. (niv)

He said to them,“ Listen, men of Benjamin! Will the son of Jesse give all of you fields and vineyards? Will he make all of you commanders of thousands and commanders of hundreds?Is that why you have all conspired against me? No one tells me when my son makes a covenant with the son of Jesse. None of you is concerned about me or tells me that my son has incited my servant to lie in wait for me, as he does today.” (niv)

As charcoal to embers and as wood to fire, so is a quarrelsome person for kindling strife. (niv)

do not bring hastily to court, for what will you do in the end if your neighbor puts you to shame? (niv)

But evil men are all to be cast aside like thorns, which are not gathered with the hand. (niv)

Lord, are you not from everlasting? My God, my Holy One, you will never die. You, Lord, have appointed them to execute judgment; you, my Rock, have ordained them to punish.Your eyes are too pure to look on evil; you cannot tolerate wrongdoing. Why then do you tolerate the treacherous? Why are you silent while the wicked swallow up those more righteous than themselves? (niv)

Fear the Lord and the king, my son, and do not join with rebellious officials,for those two will send sudden destruction on them, and who knows what calamities they can bring? (niv)

The righteous person may have many troubles, but the Lord delivers him from them all; (niv)

While they were enjoying themselves, some of the wicked men of the city surrounded the house. Pounding on the door, they shouted to the old man who owned the house,“ Bring out the man who came to your house so we can have sex with him.” (niv)

Eli’s sons were scoundrels; they had no regard for the Lord. (niv)
