參孫跟父母一起去亭拿，走到亭拿的葡萄園時，有一頭壯獅吼叫著撲向他。耶和華的靈降在參孫身上，他雖然手無寸鐵，竟撕裂了那頭獅子，就像撕裂一隻山羊羔一樣。他沒有把這事告訴父母。

於是，撒督祭司、拿單先知、耶何耶大的兒子比拿雅，以及基利提人和比利提人請所羅門騎上大衛王的騾子，護送他前往基訓。

大衛說：「我一直替父親放羊，有時候獅子或熊會從羊群中叼走羊，我會去追打牠，把羊從牠口中救出來。如果牠起來攻擊我，我就揪著牠的鬍子把牠打死。我曾打死過獅子和熊。這未受割禮的非利士人竟敢向永活上帝的軍隊罵陣，他的下場也必像獅子和熊一樣。耶和華曾經從獅子和熊的利爪下拯救我，祂也必從非利士人手中拯救我。」掃羅對大衛說：「去吧，願耶和華與你同在。」

不過，撒督祭司、耶何耶大的兒子比拿雅、拿單先知、示每、利以和大衛的勇士卻沒有跟隨他。

於是，王命令耶何耶大的兒子比拿雅殺死示每。這樣所羅門的江山得以穩固。

以東的族長惶恐，摩押的英雄顫慄，迦南的居民都膽戰心驚。

但他沒有邀請臣僕我、撒督祭司、耶何耶大的兒子比拿雅和你的僕人所羅門。

有人把這消息告訴所羅門王，說約押已經逃進聖幕，躲在祭壇旁邊。所羅門就派耶何耶大的兒子比拿雅去殺他。比拿雅來到耶和華的聖幕，對約押說：「王吩咐你出來！」約押卻回答說：「不，我要死在這裡。」比拿雅回去稟告王。王說：「你就照他的話成全他吧，你要埋葬他，把他濫殺無辜的罪從我和我父親家清除。耶和華要讓他血債血還。因為他背著我父親殺了兩名比他良善正直的人，即尼珥的兒子以色列元帥押尼珥和益帖的兒子猶大元帥亞瑪撒。所以，殺這二人的血債必永遠歸到約押和他後代身上。願耶和華的平安永遠伴隨大衛和他的後代、他的家、他的國。」耶何耶大的兒子比拿雅就去把約押殺死，葬在曠野約押自己的墓地。王委派耶何耶大的兒子比拿雅替代約押為元帥，命撒督祭司代替亞比亞他。

有些迦得支派的人到曠野的堡壘投奔大衛，他們作戰英勇，善用盾和矛，貌似雄獅，快如山鹿。

「掃羅和約拿單深受愛戴，生死不分離。他們比鷹更敏捷，比獅子還強壯。

耶何耶大的兒子比拿雅統管基利提人和比利提人。大衛王的眾子都在他左右做首領。

祭司耶何耶大的兒子比拿雅負責第三班，在三月當值，他班內有兩萬四千人。比拿雅是當時的三十位勇士之一，也是三十位勇士之首。他兒子暗米薩拔在他班內做統領。
