『在永恆主你的上帝所賜給你去取得的土地上、若發現有被刺死的人、他倒在野外，不知道是誰擊殺的，那麼、你的長老和審判官就要出去，量那被刺死的人四圍的城市離那人多遠。離那被刺死的人最近的城，那城的長老要取牛羣中一隻母牛犢、就是未曾被用來耕種過、未曾負軛拉過東西的。那城的長老要把那母牛犢牽下去到一個有活水長流的谿谷、就是未曾被耕種過、未曾被撒過種的，在那裏、就在谿谷間、把那母牛犢的脖子打折了。祭司利未的子孫要湊近前，因為永恆主你的上帝是揀選了他們來事奉他、來奉永恆主的名祝福的。一切爭訟一切毆打的事都要憑他們的口所說的來判決。離那被刺死的人最近的、那城的眾長老要在谿谷間在脖子被打折的母牛犢以上洗手。他們要應聲申明說：「這血我們的手未曾使它流過，我們的眼也未曾看見過。永恆主啊，求你赦宥你人民以色列、就是你所贖救的；不要使流無辜血的罪歸在你人民以色列中間；總要使他們流人血的罪得除淨。」這樣、你既行了永恆主所看為對的事，你就從你中間把流無辜血的罪肅清了。

『擊打人以至於死的、必須被處死。

『使人流血的、人也必使他流血；因為上帝造人、是按上帝自己的形像造的。

彼拉多見無濟於事，反會生亂，就拿水當羣眾面前洗手說：『這人流血而死，我全無辜；你們自理吧。』

永恆主說：『你幹了甚麼事？你兄弟的血有聲音從地裏向我哀叫呢。

這樣，你們就不至於使你們所在之地成了俗污，因為血能使地成了俗污；若有在地上流人血的，非流那殺人者的血，那地之被血染就不能得潔除。
