The king sang this lament for Abner:“ Should Abner have died as the lawless die?

King David sang a song of sadness over Abner. He said,“ Should Abner have died as sinful people do?

And the king lamented for Abner, saying,“ Should Abner die as a fool dies?

Then the king sang this funeral song for Abner:“ Should Abner have died as fools die?

and the king sang a lament for Abner: Should Abner die as a fool dies?

And the king sang a song of mourning for Abner and said,“ Should Abner die as a fool dies?

And the king sang a lament over Abner and said:“ Should Abner die as a fool dies?

And the king lamented for Abner, and said, Should Abner die as a fool dieth?

and the king sang a lament for Abner: Should Abner die as a fool dies?

The king chanted the following lament for Abner:“ Should Abner have died like a fool?

“ No, my brother!” she said to him.“ Don’t force me! Such a thing should not be done in Israel! Don’t do this wicked thing.What about me? Where could I get rid of my disgrace? And what about you? You would be like one of the wicked fools in Israel. Please speak to the king; he will not keep me from being married to you.” (niv)

David took up this lament concerning Saul and his son Jonathan, (niv)

Like a partridge that hatches eggs it did not lay are those who gain riches by unjust means. When their lives are half gone, their riches will desert them, and in the end they will prove to be fools. (niv)

Jeremiah composed laments for Josiah, and to this day all the male and female singers commemorate Josiah in the laments. These became a tradition in Israel and are written in the Laments. (niv)

And I’ll say to myself,“ You have plenty of grain laid up for many years. Take life easy; eat, drink and be merry.”’“ But God said to him,‘ You fool! This very night your life will be demanded from you. Then who will get what you have prepared for yourself?’ (niv)

Then I said to myself,“ The fate of the fool will overtake me also. What then do I gain by being wise?” I said to myself,“ This too is meaningless.”For the wise, like the fool, will not be long remembered; the days have already come when both have been forgotten. Like the fool, the wise too must die! (niv)

The mouths of fools are their undoing, and their lips are a snare to their very lives. (niv)
