我雖受膏為王、今猶荏弱、而西魯雅之二子、桀驁不馴、願耶和華視惡人之罪戾、而報施焉。

我始受膏為王、今尚荏弱、此西魯雅二子強於我、願主循惡人所行之惡而報之、

And today, though I am the anointed king, I am weak, and these sons of Zeruiah are too strong for me. May the Lord repay the evildoer according to his evil deeds!”

I’m the anointed king. But today I’m weak. These sons of Zeruiah are too powerful for me. May the Lord pay back the one who killed Abner! May he pay him back for the evil thing he has done!”

And I was gentle today, though anointed king. These men, the sons of Zeruiah, are more severe than I. The Lord repay the evildoer according to his wickedness!”

And even though I am the anointed king, these two sons of Zeruiah— Joab and Abishai— are too strong for me to control. So may the Lord repay these evil men for their evil deeds.”

You have made it clear today that the commanders and their men mean nothing to you. I see that you would be pleased if Absalom were alive today and all of us were dead.Now go out and encourage your men. I swear by the Lord that if you don’t go out, not a man will be left with you by nightfall. This will be worse for you than all the calamities that have come on you from your youth till now.” (niv)

He told them,“ Consider carefully what you do, because you are not judging for mere mortals but for the Lord, who is with you whenever you give a verdict.Now let the fear of the Lord be on you. Judge carefully, for with the Lord our God there is no injustice or partiality or bribery.” (niv)

Say to him,‘ Be careful, keep calm and don’t be afraid. Do not lose heart because of these two smoldering stubs of firewood— because of the fierce anger of Rezin and Aram and of the son of Remaliah. (niv)

And say to Amasa,‘ Are you not my own flesh and blood? May God deal with me, be it ever so severely, if you are not the commander of my army for life in place of Joab.’” (niv)

For the one in authority is God’s servant for your good. But if you do wrong, be afraid, for rulers do not bear the sword for no reason. They are God’s servants, agents of wrath to bring punishment on the wrongdoer. (niv)

who says,“ I will cut off the horns of all the wicked, but the horns of the righteous will be lifted up.” (niv)

and with you, Lord, is unfailing love”; and,“ You reward everyone according to what they have done.” (niv)

The trouble they cause recoils on them; their violence comes down on their own heads. (niv)

“ Anyone who strikes a person with a fatal blow is to be put to death. (niv)

remove wicked officials from the king’s presence, and his throne will be established through righteousness. (niv)
