David asked,“ Is there anyone remaining from Saul’s family I can show kindness to because of Jonathan?”

David asked,“ Is there anyone still left of the house of Saul to whom I can show kindness for Jonathan’s sake?”

David asked,“ Is anyone left from the royal house of Saul? If there is, I want to be kind to him because of Jonathan.”

And David said,“ Is there still anyone left of the house of Saul, that I may show him kindness for Jonathan’s sake?”

One day David asked,“ Is anyone in Saul’s family still alive— anyone to whom I can show kindness for Jonathan’s sake?”

David asked,“ Is there anyone remaining from the family of Saul I can show kindness to for Jonathan’s sake?”

Then David said,“ Is there anyone still left of the house of Saul, so that I could show him kindness for Jonathan’s sake?”

Now David said,“ Is there still anyone who is left of the house of Saul, that I may show him kindness for Jonathan’s sake?”

And David said, Is there yet any that is left of the house of Saul, that I may show him kindness for Jonathan’s sake?

And David said, Is there yet any that is left of the house of Saul, that I may shew him kindness for Jonathan’s sake?

Then David asked,“ Is anyone still left from the family of Saul, so that I may extend kindness to him for the sake of Jonathan?”

David said,“ Is there yet any who is left of Saul’s house, that I may show him kindness for Jonathan’s sake?”

Jonathan then said to David,“ Go in the assurance the two of us pledged in the name of the Lord when we said: The Lord will be a witness between you and me and between my offspring and your offspring forever.” Then David left, and Jonathan went into the city.

“ And the King will answer them,‘ I assure you: Whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers of Mine, you did for Me.’

If I continue to live, treat me with the Lord’s faithful love, but if I die,don’t ever withdraw your faithful love from my household— not even when the Lord cuts off every one of David’s enemies from the face of the earth.”Then Jonathan made a covenant with the house of David, saying,“ May the Lord hold David’s enemies accountable.”Jonathan once again swore to David in his love for him, because he loved him as he loved himself.

And whoever gives you a cup of water to drink because of My name, since you belong to the Messiah— I assure you: He will never lose his reward.

When Jesus saw His mother and the disciple He loved standing there, He said to His mother,“ Woman, here is your son.”Then He said to the disciple,“ Here is your mother.” And from that hour the disciple took her into his home.

Then Saul’s son Jonathan came to David in Horesh and encouraged him in his faith in God,saying,“ Don’t be afraid, for my father Saul will never lay a hand on you. You yourself will be king over Israel, and I’ll be your second-in-command. Even my father Saul knows it is true.”Then the two of them made a covenant in the Lord’s presence. Afterward, David remained in Horesh, while Jonathan went home.

I appeal to you, instead, on the basis of love. I, Paul, as an elderly man and now also as a prisoner of Christ Jesus,appeal to you for my son, Onesimus. I fathered him while I was in chains.Once he was useless to you, but now he is useful both to you and to me.I am sending him back to you as a part of myself.

I grieve for you, Jonathan, my brother. You were such a friend to me. Your love for me was more wonderful than the love of women.

“ Show loyalty to the sons of Barzillai the Gileadite and let them be among those who eat at your table because they supported me when I fled from your brother Absalom.

And whoever gives just a cup of cold water to one of these little ones because he is a disciple— I assure you: He will never lose his reward!”

Now finally, all of you should be like-minded and sympathetic, should love believers, and be compassionate and humble,

Don’t abandon your friend or your father’s friend, and don’t go to your brother’s house in your time of calamity; better a neighbor nearby than a brother far away.

When David had finished speaking with Saul, Jonathan committed himself to David, and loved him as much as he loved himself.Saul kept David with him from that day on and did not let him return to his father’s house.Jonathan made a covenant with David because he loved him as much as himself.Then Jonathan removed the robe he was wearing and gave it to David, along with his military tunic, his sword, his bow, and his belt.
