他所說的話，有的信，有的不信。

巴拿巴和保羅二位使徒聽見，就撕開衣裳，跳進眾人中間，喊着：

因為兒子藐視父親，女兒抵擋母親，媳婦抗拒婆婆，人的仇敵就是自己家裏的人。

難道我們沒有權利帶着信主的妻子一起出入，如同其餘的使徒，和主的兄弟們，和磯法一樣嗎？

於是眾人因耶穌而分裂了。

他們中間有些人聽了勸，就跟從保羅和西拉，還有許多虔敬的希臘人，尊貴的婦女也不少。但不信的猶太人心裏嫉妒，聚集了些市井流氓，搭夥成羣，煽動全城的人闖進耶孫的家，要把保羅和西拉帶到民眾那裏。

後來，有些人心裏剛硬不信，在眾人面前毀謗這道；保羅就離開他們，也叫門徒與他們分開，就在推喇奴的講堂天天辯論。

你們以為我來是要使地上太平嗎？不！我告訴你們，是使人紛爭。從今以後，一家五個人將要紛爭，三個和兩個相爭，兩個和三個相爭：父親和兒子相爭，兒子和父親相爭；母親和女兒相爭，女兒和母親相爭；婆婆和媳婦相爭，媳婦和婆婆相爭。」
