Certain people came down from Judea to Antioch and were teaching the believers:“ Unless you are circumcised, according to the custom taught by Moses, you cannot be saved.” (niv)

They have been informed that you teach all the Jews who live among the Gentiles to turn away from Moses, telling them not to circumcise their children or live according to our customs. (niv)

Then Paul made his defense:“ I have done nothing wrong against the Jewish law or against the temple or against Caesar.” (niv)

Why, then, was the law given at all? It was added because of transgressions until the Seed to whom the promise referred had come. The law was given through angels and entrusted to a mediator. (niv)

They will proclaim my glory among the nations.And they will bring all your people, from all the nations, to my holy mountain in Jerusalem as an offering to the Lord— on horses, in chariots and wagons, and on mules and camels,” says the Lord.“ They will bring them, as the Israelites bring their grain offerings, to the temple of the Lord in ceremonially clean vessels.And I will select some of them also to be priests and Levites,” says the Lord. and especially so because you are well acquainted with all the Jewish customs and controversies. Therefore, I beg you to listen to me patiently. (niv)

They will fall by the sword and will be taken as prisoners to all the nations. Jerusalem will be trampled on by the Gentiles until the times of the Gentiles are fulfilled. (niv)

If perfection could have been attained through the Levitical priesthood— and indeed the law given to the people established that priesthood— why was there still need for another priest to come, one in the order of Melchizedek, not in the order of Aaron?For when the priesthood is changed, the law must be changed also.He of whom these things are said belonged to a different tribe, and no one from that tribe has ever served at the altar.For it is clear that our Lord descended from Judah, and in regard to that tribe Moses said nothing about priests.And what we have said is even more clear if another priest like Melchizedek appears,one who has become a priest not on the basis of a regulation as to his ancestry but on the basis of the power of an indestructible life.For it is declared:“ You are a priest forever, in the order of Melchizedek.”The former regulation is set aside because it was weak and useless( for the law made nothing perfect), and a better hope is introduced, by which we draw near to God. then I will make this house like Shiloh and this city a curse among all the nations of the earth.’”The priests, the prophets and all the people heard Jeremiah speak these words in the house of the Lord.But as soon as Jeremiah finished telling all the people everything the Lord had commanded him to say, the priests, the prophets and all the people seized him and said,“ You must die!Why do you prophesy in the Lord’s name that this house will be like Shiloh and this city will be desolate and deserted?” And all the people crowded around Jeremiah in the house of the Lord. For the Israelites will live many days without king or prince, without sacrifice or sacred stones, without ephod or household gods. (niv)

Before the coming of this faith, we were held in custody under the law, locked up until the faith that was to come would be revealed. (niv)

The law is only a shadow of the good things that are coming— not the realities themselves. For this reason it can never, by the same sacrifices repeated endlessly year after year, make perfect those who draw near to worship.Otherwise, would they not have stopped being offered? For the worshipers would have been cleansed once for all, and would no longer have felt guilty for their sins.But those sacrifices are an annual reminder of sins.It is impossible for the blood of bulls and goats to take away sins.Therefore, when Christ came into the world, he said:“ Sacrifice and offering you did not desire, but a body you prepared for me;with burnt offerings and sin offerings you were not pleased.Then I said,‘ Here I am— it is written about me in the scroll— I have come to do your will, my God.’”First he said,“ Sacrifices and offerings, burnt offerings and sin offerings you did not desire, nor were you pleased with them”— though they were offered in accordance with the law.Then he said,“ Here I am, I have come to do your will.” He sets aside the first to establish the second.And by that will, we have been made holy through the sacrifice of the body of Jesus Christ once for all.Day after day every priest stands and performs his religious duties; again and again he offers the same sacrifices, which can never take away sins.But when this priest had offered for all time one sacrifice for sins, he sat down at the right hand of God,and since that time he waits for his enemies to be made his footstool.For by one sacrifice he has made perfect forever those who are being made holy.The Holy Spirit also testifies to us about this. First he says:“ This is the covenant I will make with them after that time, says the Lord. I will put my laws in their hearts, and I will write them on their minds.”Then he adds:“ Their sins and lawless acts I will remember no more.”And where these have been forgiven, sacrifice for sin is no longer necessary. (niv)

I will gather all the nations to Jerusalem to fight against it; the city will be captured, the houses ransacked, and the women raped. Half of the city will go into exile, but the rest of the people will not be taken from the city. (niv)

This is what the Lord says:“ Heaven is my throne, and the earth is my footstool. Where is the house you will build for me? Where will my resting place be?Has not my hand made all these things, and so they came into being?” declares the Lord.“ These are the ones I look on with favor: those who are humble and contrite in spirit, and who tremble at my word.But whoever sacrifices a bull is like one who kills a person, and whoever offers a lamb is like one who breaks a dog’s neck; whoever makes a grain offering is like one who presents pig’s blood, and whoever burns memorial incense is like one who worships an idol. They have chosen their own ways, and they delight in their abominations;so I also will choose harsh treatment for them and will bring on them what they dread. For when I called, no one answered, when I spoke, no one listened. They did evil in my sight and chose what displeases me.”Hear the word of the Lord, you who tremble at his word:“ Your own people who hate you, and exclude you because of my name, have said,‘ Let the Lord be glorified, that we may see your joy!’ Yet they will be put to shame.Hear that uproar from the city, hear that noise from the temple! It is the sound of the Lord repaying his enemies all they deserve. (niv)

This is an illustration for the present time, indicating that the gifts and sacrifices being offered were not able to clear the conscience of the worshiper.They are only a matter of food and drink and various ceremonial washings— external regulations applying until the time of the new order.But when Christ came as high priest of the good things that are now already here, he went through the greater and more perfect tabernacle that is not made with human hands, that is to say, is not a part of this creation. (niv)

Do not trust in deceptive words and say,“ This is the temple of the Lord, the temple of the Lord, the temple of the Lord!”If you really change your ways and your actions and deal with each other justly,if you do not oppress the foreigner, the fatherless or the widow and do not shed innocent blood in this place, and if you do not follow other gods to your own harm,then I will let you live in this place, in the land I gave your ancestors for ever and ever.But look, you are trusting in deceptive words that are worthless.“‘ Will you steal and murder, commit adultery and perjury, burn incense to Baal and follow other gods you have not known,and then come and stand before me in this house, which bears my Name, and say,“ We are safe”— safe to do all these detestable things?Has this house, which bears my Name, become a den of robbers to you? But I have been watching! declares the Lord.“‘ Go now to the place in Shiloh where I first made a dwelling for my Name, and see what I did to it because of the wickedness of my people Israel.While you were doing all these things, declares the Lord, I spoke to you again and again, but you did not listen; I called you, but you did not answer.Therefore, what I did to Shiloh I will now do to the house that bears my Name, the temple you trust in, the place I gave to you and your ancestors. (niv)

Then Jeremiah said to all the officials and all the people:“ The Lord sent me to prophesy against this house and this city all the things you have heard. (niv)

“ Jerusalem, Jerusalem, you who kill the prophets and stone those sent to you, how often I have longed to gather your children together, as a hen gathers her chicks under her wings, and you were not willing.Look, your house is left to you desolate. I tell you, you will not see me again until you say,‘ Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord.’” (niv)

and declared,“ This fellow said,‘ I am able to destroy the temple of God and rebuild it in three days.’” (niv)
